feeling nervous and anxious

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Well Monday is my day, I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am for surgery at 7:30. I am feeling very anxious and nervous about it. Not necessarily about the procedure but afterwards I am so afraid I am going to go thru all this for nothing. I am worried I will not be able to do it and I will not lose weight. I have only lost 7lbs on my pre op diet but I have slipped here and there. Another thing is I don't like to be in the hospital all alone. I do not have a big family and I know I won't have visitors and I am the kind of person who like to have others around. Please just let Monday be over and let me be able to succeed. For now I am going to go try to stay busy and go see my horse at the barn.

I know it is natural to be nervous. I was dropped off at the hospital very early in the morning alone because my husband had to get the kids ready for school and then go to work. I rather he take off work when I got home from the hospital in case I needed help then. Well I felt like I was on auto pilot walking in to the hospital, waiting, going through pre-op procedures etc. I chose to not think too much about it. Before I knew it the procedure was over and I was in a room. Honestly, the hospital stay is so short you don't have to worry about visitors. You'll be back home before you know it. And really it does work. If you put some effort into following your doctors advice you almost can't help but loose weight. It is the keeping the weight off that is the challenge. Once you see how great you will feel after loosing the weight, that will give you the motivation to keep it that way.

Good luck. You will be fine. Keeping coming back to this website for encouragement and advice.

Hi there, I was sleeved in December, and I was so nervous I cried for weeks...I wrote a will, backed out in my head, and even changed my surgery date once.

It was so not worth it! The surgery was quick, and relatively pain free. These surgeons are good, and this surgery has a very low complication rate.

The only difficulties I had were some pain when I got home when sleeping or lying down. I did not have nausea, or trouble drinking. I can eat soft foods well, and I definitely have had some full feelings, it is nothing terrible at all.

I know you will do well, most of us do.

The worry was much worse than the surgery for me :-)

Thank you for this thread, my surgery is in three days and I'm more nervous about being in the hospital alone (I hate hospitals and they said I'd be in for at least 2 days) than anything else. I have a private mental goal of being out after the first day. Thank you for the words of comfort.

Well thank you everyone for the words of encouragement. I think today has been the longest. My dog is my baby and she got really depressed seeing me pack a bag and I think it really hit hard after that. But tomorrow there will be no turning back and I know all will be good from there. I told my dog there will be lots of walks for her!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
