lap band + plication

Recommended Posts

Hi just wondering if anyone out there had any complications with lap band + plication?

And if so, what kind of reactions did you have? Like did u feel nauseas? Fevers? Hard time breathing?

Painful cramps? Bleeding?

How did you know that something was wrong?

i have band and plication and i am nearly 19 months post op..i have had no issues what so ever

i have never slimed, pb'd, been stuck.....

and if i had any of the issues you asked about, i would have went directly to my dr

why i have always said to anyone with any WLS, call the dr if it hurts, if there is pain or your are

just concerned.....the dr would know....

i think one would know something is wrong (pain wise or not feeling right) and what its vital to listen to your body, watch for signs, do the monthly follow ups the first year and DEF follow what the dr advised us to do food portion wise

I have the band with plication, and at 9 months out, have no issues at all. Like CarolinaGirl, I've never been stuck, nor have I PB'd or slimed. I'm very happy with my decision, and feel that the plication gives me a very strong signal, at times I've tried to eat through the band signals. I cannot say what it would be like without plication, but I just know that I'm doing very well, and haven't had any surgery related issues. There have been a couple of times when I thought I was having an issue, but after testing by my doctor, it was nothing. The feeling that alerted me was a sticking pain at the bottom of my sternum. During the holidays......when I pushed it a bit, I've had a couple of stomach aches. But I can't honestly say that wouldn't have happened when pushing it without surgery. The difference is, pushing it now is so much less food than before.....which was the whole point of having WLS.

Good luck to you!

I've had lapband with plication for almost 10 months. I've never had any problems (knock on wood), haven't been stuck, pbing, slimming or anything. I have NOT gotten any fills and I've lost over 100lbs. It's been the greatest thing I've ever done for myself and I hope you have an amazing journey! Good luck.

The sticking and sliming are band restriction related only. If you don't have fills, the plication is doing all of the work and that's great. I have had fills and have had a few stuck and sliming episodes. But, my band isn't as tight as I hear some have. I still eat bread and meat. In fact, I retrospect, I don't think my stuck episodes are that at all, as much as eating more than I should, after all my stomach is smaller now. I've learned not to do that now.

Plus, with plication, I didn't experience the bandster hell I've heard spoken of. Plus, once I lose I may have most of my Fluid removed and see if I can maintain with plication alone.

It's what banders experience before getting to the green zone where they can't seem to get satisfied. Constant hunger.

Had band with plication. Did not know I had plication until I asked several months later what plication was and was told I have it. Seems to hold the band in tighter than just putting the band on and using fills to keep it in place. Have 6 cc in 10cc band and have been green for about 4 months. Sometimes I think I should get another small fill, but my PA says not just yet. I have had 3 stuck issues and all my fault. Small bites and chew, chew, chew is what I did not do. The slime is icky and luckily I was home when they happened.

Lee, generally those who have plication seem to have more hunger control and don't seem to require as much fill. Some on here, carolinagirl for one, have never had a fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
