Hi if all goes well I should have my surgery sometime next month. I'm wondering if there is anyone around pgh, pa? Would love to have support close by.

Hi, I'm from Pittsburgh. No date yet, one more test this week and then I submit to insurance. I'm looking for folks having surgery around the same time as me...prob end of Jan or early February.

I have my final pulmonary clearance scheduled for this week then hopefully we will start the approval process from the insurance. I'm very excited and can't wait to start living!

I actually leave east of Pittsburgh. I will be having surgery at UPMC ST Margaret's.

Hi Ladies,

I have been going through the process since April 2013. I've done EVERYTHING plus some. I have been put through the ringer several times, and I am happy to say that I finally got the go ahead from the insurance company. I am now waiting for scheduling to call me and it seems to be taking forever.

My surgeon is Dr. Ali. I was Kalim but he left.

I am from the Allentown area. I had my Endoscopy today and it was a breeze. I was worried about it for nothing. I am hoping to have my surgery in mid February. I must wait until sleep study is done to get my surgery date.

I am in Erie, too. Skinny Minnie, do you belong to the Downtown Y? If so, would you like a work out buddy? I do Water aerobics 5 times a week and body pump once a week.

I didn't know you could add friend on here LOL!! I had surgery on August 14th. Dr. Arreola performed it. I really like Dr. Ali tho also. He comes to most of the support group meetings.

I am a member at Best Fitness because it is so close to my work. I do love the Y though. I was a member at the east side one for a few years before I moved to the west side. I would love a work out buddy though! Having someone to work out with is such grey motivation.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
