LipstickLady 25,682 Posted January 3, 2014 In my line of work, I often meet potential clients at Starbucks for the first time. Because we've never seen each other, it's always been my habit to describe myself as "short and round with big curly brown hair" and no one has ever missed me. I can always tell if the person I am meeting is a chubster, too, because they giggle at my comment. Today, I was the only female in the place when a heavier lady walked in who was obviously looking for me. I waved her over to the table and she looked at me and said, "I thought you said you were round. Were you trying to be funny? Making fun of fat people isn't a joke.' EHRMAHGHERRRRRRRD!!!I never even thought about it. I'm still short, I still have big, curly hair, but I'm no longer round. Last year at this time, I was a snug 20/XXL and now I'm a comfy size 10 in skinny pants/medium top. It took me a minute to even figure out what the heck she was referring to when she made the comment.I was so stunned at what happened, I stuttered over my explanation. I tried to explain that I've lost a bunch of weight, yada, yada, yada, but from the look on her face and her response back, I'm pretty sure I offended her and I won't be hearing from her again.Whooooops! There's a habit I'll have to break. 10 planetheather, ProudGrammy, Alex Brecher and 7 others reacted to this

LipstickLady 25,682 Posted January 3, 2014 Now you can say, "I'm that sexy minx with the big curly hair. Grrrr" Not sure that's very business-like. But hell, I'll try anything.
nursekimberly89 50 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) I'm confused as to why she got so offended..Referring to yourself as "round" is a habit. Habits can prove difficult to break...if this potential client can't understand that you meant no ill harm, I don't know if I'd want to do business with her...just my 2 cents though And ditto to what McButterpants said lol. princesstami 94 Posted January 3, 2014 That is an awesome story! I could see me doing the same a year from now hopefully. Sorry you may have lost a client, people never cease to amaze me with their sensitivities.
gamergirl 4,610 Posted January 3, 2014 is it wrong that I laughed when I read this post? It's actually pretty awesome and I can relate. I used to refer to myself as that "geeky, overweight Indian chick" when I was gently poking fun at myself. Three out of those four are still true but my catch phrase my need some word smithing. 2 Butterthebean and gmanbat reacted to this

Indigo1991 1,612 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Omg, another dilemma I hadn't thought about - how do I describe myself to new clients I go to meet??? Like LL, I have always said short and round but also ageing ... Time for some new words - can still use short but "short and normal" seems a bit of an odd thing to say. Might just have to stick with "short and ageing" for now until I can think of something better... Edited January 4, 2014 by Indigo1991

Indigo1991 1,612 Posted January 4, 2014 I like your thinking Fluff, might need cosmetics to be able to say that with a straight face but it could work for you 1 Fluffnomore reacted to this
