Pain in the right side of my chest like a rock?

Recommended Posts

Ok, guys and gals...I had my sleeve surgery performed on November 20th 2013. Here for the past couple of days I have noticed that I will randomly feel a pain in the bottom of my throat/top of my chest that feels like I swallowed a rock and it makes it hard to breathe in deeply. It would come and go and I kind of took it for a form of gas or something. Well, last night all night I kept waking up with heartburn and some chest pain, but I guess I was still mostly asleep because I just kept passing back out. Well, this morning I woke up and I have this pain in my right chest behind my rib and in my breast whenever I breathe in and I feel the same feeling as if I swallowed a large rock in my lower throat/top of my chest. I am not sure of what in the world this could possibly be. I have noticed that at certain times I have eaten a little quickly and I end up throwing up. I am not talking about shoving food in my face and not chewing. I make sure that I chew til it is runny LOL! But I eat only 3-4 bites and I am stuffed, so trying to drag 3-4 small bites of food over 30 minutes is very difficult. I end up throwing it up, though when I eat too quickly. And I just did that the other day, so I don't know if that is what it is. I don't do it often. I try to make sure that when I am eating, I'm not just eating. I am doing something else, too, so that I eat slower and don't think about it. Obviously I know that I may need to go see my doc if the problem doesn't persist, but man...I would really appreciate some opinions from anyone who may know or may have had a similar experience! Thanks so much, everyone! <3

The only two things that come to mind are gerd with acid reflux symptoms.. Or a stricture.

It really is best to put a call into the doctor to have him or her evaluate you. :)

Sounds like you need to contact your doctor because it could be acid reflux, pnuemonia or even blood clots. About two weeks after my surgery i started feeling pain in my upper stomach and back on the left side that would not go away. I contacted my doctor he had me come in for a CT-Scan and found that I had blood clots in my stomach. So please don't take any chances with this go and have it checked out. Good luck!

I have always had heartburn here and there. I am going to see my doc, but I can't get in until Tuesday for my appointment. May go to E.R., but prefer to see my doc that knows about my surgery and all and don't have to re-explain all. We'll see. My sister is a nurse and she thinks it's probably GERD. Thank y'all for the advice!!! I appreciate it! I definitely need to get this figured out and get it fixed or get meds because it does not feel good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
