tmanning 4 Posted January 3, 2014 Has anyone ever heard of a band corroding to the point where it starts to crumble in the stomach. i just heard that it happend to someone and it makes me anxious. I'm not sure how often it occurs or why? The person had to have major surgery to make sure that everything was removed.
☠carolinagirl☠ 18,721 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) things happen.....good and bad with any WLS it just how it goes....we all take the risks...and why its vital to do what our own doctors advise.. and hearsay and the world wide web opens the doors to let the moths of BS stories (real or not or embellishments) run wild.......any questions about erosion, band issues (or any WLS issues) is best left to your doctor to answer.. why?....because it depends on who you ask (and where they are in their journey)....those who have had neg experiences tend to post that.....and those who have success tend to post that and it turns into lapband butterflies vs lapband bats........try to not worry about things that could (or very low risk) of happening...always ask your doctor Edited January 3, 2014 by ☠carolinagirl☠ 10 MandaMom23, Essence33, enjoythetime and 7 others reacted to this
The Icy One 518 Posted January 3, 2014 Carolinagirl put it so well. There is some pretty bad Lap Band hate out there and the perpetrators of that hate are perfectly happy to embroider the inevitable complications that can and do occur and turn the concerns of potential bandsters from butterflies to bats. (I love that phrase and I am totally stealing it! ) Do your research. Listen to your doctor, your gut. Do what you know is right for you. Remember, exaggerated stories are everywhere. Let then caution you but not scare or deter you. Move forward boldly. This is for your future, your health and your life. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

tmanning 4 Posted January 4, 2014 I know the person personally, so I know its true. How it happened is what concerns me. I know that she wasn't following the rules and not seeing her doc regularly. She was having trouble with her stomach and they eventually found out that the band is breaking up in her stomach causing her to be sick. I am just not sure how much she is actually telling. I was banded on 8-21-13. I was just wondering how common it is. Im definitely going to ask my dr about it. I understand what yall are saying too.
Pepper28 82 Posted January 4, 2014 When did your friend have this now corroded band installed? The newer bands, from what i understand, from what ive been told do not corrode. Some time ago, bands only held 4cc's now they come in 10, 11, and 14cc's. Back then 4cc's bands gave restriction the first day out of surgery, now theyre filled/adjusted over time. So it may be best to find out whether she/he had the Allergen band or some other. It could have also been the installation. I have a girlfriend who got the band AND her surgeon stapled the rest of her remaining stomach into the shape of the sleeve. She had to have the lapband removed and had the sleeve done correctly in its entirety some years later.
tmanning 4 Posted January 4, 2014 Im not sure when she had it done. She is being kind of vague. I know that she got it over 6yrs ago.

Best wishes, don't read too much stuff. Check with your own surgeon! Karen..aka..kll724 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

SandyM 1,956 Posted January 4, 2014 Yes, maybe erosion. Corrosion has to do with metal and our bands are not.
