Starting mushy foods

Recommended Posts

I am starting post op week 3 today and can start tryig mushy foods. I also had my gallbladder removed when I was sleeved as well.

This morning I made a scrammbled egg in a spray of olive oil cooking spray...

I ate 1/2 of it over a 30 minute period...had a ton of burping and was in the bathroom with a very loose BM 5 minutes after.

Is this normal when you start mushy foods in general?

Does having my gallbladder out make any difference?

When you started muchy foods, did you do 3 meals of it that day or work your way up to it? Or how did you do it?

Sorry for all the questions...my surgeon is fabulous but his staff is not and emailing the nurse is not fun...we tend to "correct" one another.

Thank you!

My general advice was try one thing at a time so you can tell if it doesn't agree with you. So I tried different things at different meals. Probably scrambled egg, refried black Beans with cheese, and rotisserie chicken blended into mashed potatoes for the first couple of days. Then as that went well, I'd add in something else. Meatloaf. Unblended chili. Etc.

My gallbladder bit the dust long ago and I don't find there is much rhyme or reason to the BMs these days. The other day after taking Nyquil I was quite "busy" the next morning. I rarely get constipated, but before surgery I never did; I probably had at least one loose stool every morning. So it's hard to say what is related.

It's a process, that's for sure. A whole scrambled egg would have been too much for me at first and a little too dense. I found applesauce comfortable to eat. A bite of banana. For me, it is similar to my band...I can really only eat a little in the morning, then larger amounts later on in the day. I had loose stools early on, which resolved. Foods you don't tolerate early on are OK later. Listen to your body...if one or two tablespoons feels like enough, stop. (that's what I had to do, maybe it was swelling?) I think if you want to transition by mixing liquid and mushy in a day, it's fine. I can't tell you anything about the gallbladder...I still have mine.

After having my gallbadder out over 10 years ago I went threw years of having bathroom issues. I could not eat fastfood without having to go to the bathroom within 15 min later. I found that if I ate anything high in fat it triggered it. I saw a doctor and he told me that the gall bladder holds the bile that is released to break down fatty foods so since I did not have a gallbadder anymore it was being released into my small intestine and it was causing me to have bloating and pain and runny BM. It has gotten better and now since being sleeved and still in the pureed stage I have not really eaten any fatty foods to know if it will still happen. To tell you the truth I'm having the other problem of only going every three or four days.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
