Patiently waiting!

Recommended Posts

I started my journey march 2013 have since then completed my orientation all my appts with dietician , nurse , psychologist , pre-surgical class and met the surgeon as well! On Nov. 25th I met the surgeon and was given my prescription for the Optifast shakes (3week supply) . But am now waiting for a call from the hospital to give me my date and tell me when to start my shakes! I am glad I have stumbled across this app for my phone as I find I am constantly glued to it reading everyone's success stories an hoping my day is only around the corner to join the "losers bench" :) it's nice to read an see the pictures and know I'm not in this alone !!

Let me just say this! I did the same thing.... stumbled across the app when I was looking for bariatric apps for my Iphone. It has been the best thing in the WORLD for me! I am CONSTANTLY reading if I am awake! LOL There are so many nice people that are here to support us, educate us, and sometimes just listen to our rants! This is a wonderful place to make friends, and know there will always be someone here that understands where we are and what we are going thru!! Hope to keep in touch and read more about ya! :)

Hi and welcome! This app has been such a great outlet for me so I know exactly what you mean. The good news is you are close! By the end of this year you will be blown away by how life has changed. It does seem to drag when you are eagerly waiting and so ready to get this journey going! Before you know it you will have your spot on the losers bench! Keep us updated and congrats on your upcoming surgery!!

Ty so much for understanding! It's so nice to have someone to talk to that's been there an done that. So many people just don't understand the impatience in my every day life. It can be frustrating. But then I log on here and find all the support I need and even meet great people! So nice! :)

I found this site about 4 months pre op. I have made some great friends here and the support I received is invaluable! I was slightly addicted to the site and to learning as much about the procedure as I possibly could. ;) I highly suggest that when you have your date, you search out or start a group for that months surgeries. Having a group of people going through the same things on the same time line as you will be a big help to you. Good luck on your journey! You WONT regret it!

Yep u hit the nail on the head. With this life change so many don't understand. That's why it is great to have people who know exactly what you are going through. It's truly one of those things you had to have had this surgery to,"get it." The friends and support here is mind blowing. Thank The Lord I found everyone!

Dori is right about your month surgery group. Those are the folks who are right there with you in recovery and invaluable with sharing and getting feedback as they are the same time frame.

Yes once I get my date I will definitely join /create the month of group ! That's a fantastic idea ... And I couldn't agree more with everyone this far it's such a relief to know I can come on here an read away and chat to people as well and get that extra support . I'm sure I'm not the only one that has that one person in their life that is dead against the life change and so critical and judgemental ! I love reading the good and bad it really helps prepare you even more mentally and know what to expect physically .

Get busy doing something you have put off. I started cleaning closets lol, and my spare bedroom. I found that being busy kept me from thinking about being nervous. Also, I spent much time going to stores and taking my time reading labels. This site will also keep you busy!

I think everyone goes through it! I didn't sleep at all the night before surgery and then was dozing as they were prepping me. I also slept when I should've been up walking afterwards.

4 days Post Op and I can tell you, if you follow the advise of the surgeons, nurses and do as they request this surgery is so much less than what you possibly are thinking. Have I had one bad day? Yup, sure did and as a pretty gruff 48 yr old hunter, veteran and self proclaimed manly man; it scared the jolly Rodgers outta me (2 instances of throwing up blood night I came home), BUT...WORRY on my part was the worst. 5th day today, down 35 or so lbs (with pre-op diet) and daily it's easier by leaps and bounds. Walk and keep hydrated, priority for first week, you will be just fine. This is a great app and the folks on here are open, honest and very helpful. You are about to be reborn, great news !!!!!!!

LOL Reborn, I am married to the 65 year old hunter and fishing manly man, and I can relate. I bet there has never been the look of fear on his face as there was at the pre-op doctor appointment and as he walked in the hospital the morning of surgery! No elk ever scared him, for sure. Glad you and he survived and I hope you both get to climb a tree again. Proud of you and him both for taking control of your lives and getting the surgery! Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
