2.6 lbs. up after holidays

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I have never posted here before, but I just feel like I need to reach out to some fellow bandsters. The holidays have been tough this year! Loved ones with health problems and ALL the massive amounts of pies and cakes, etc.... I put on 2.6 lbs. I've had my band for 4 years. Total loss of 65 lbs. I'm not actually feeling too worried about getting the couple lbs. off. I've upped my exercise and I'm watching my calories. I feel proud of what I've accomplished. But, that deep down worry about "losing control" always lurks just beneath the surface it seems...

Does anyone else feel this weird mix of feelings? Just wondering how other people feel after the holidays!

Thanks!

atlantak

Yes it's always hard to find balance during the holidays I do find myself letting down my guard during the holidays but remember its only temporary and this is my new life so this year I made sure I had healthy foods to eat and worked out all during the holidays on thanksgiving morning I was at the gym on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas I was at the gym on New Year's Eve and day I was at the gym a great way to start my new year I learned if I want different results I have to do different things

I love that you say "this is my new life." That puts it all into perspective. Way to go with your awesome exercise routine!

Hi Atlantak

I'm just returning after being off for close to three years. I gained 6 lbs since Oct. My dr had to remove the Fluid in my band due to some complications. I went in before the holidays to get 7 cc and I'm back on track!

I've had my band for almost 3 years and have lost 55 lbs within 6 mths but have put back on 30 of those lbs!!!!

This is why I decided to get back online for support. I need to find a way to make my band work for me.

It seems like your doing great!

2.6 lbs is absolutely nothing!

I weight myself everyday, sometime twice...once at home and also at the gym....

I have been at my "Optimal" weight, with very low body fat% for about 2 years now, and have nor lost, nor gained any weight since, reaching that point of "equilibrium" and balance...

Having said that, my body weight fluctuates within the same 5 lbs everyday since then....I can be up 3 lbs today, down 2 lbs. tomorrow, up 1 the next, down 4 after that...and so on and so on....

People who are worried about a lb here or a lb there are splitting hairs and should be more focused on the big picture...the band is the band is the band...it does not change unless you have some Fluid taken out....one day is no different than the next whether it is a holiday, on vacation at a resort...whatever...the band is a constant.

If I was dieting, as the old days, and not having undergone WLS, then it would be another story....but that's why I had to have surgery...

Welcome new comers and returners. Yes, this time of year is tough. I think that we all have to return to our "normal" lives after the holidays are over. You should be able to jump back on the "band wagon" . Best wishes, and happy new you in the new year. Karen..aka.kll724

That is good example of our collective Old Band Habits.....which instead of Just Holiday Season was all year around.

This reminds of how closely we Bandsters have held so much of our lives related not to "eating' but to "OVER eating---repeatedly".

I have to keep a close watch too....but it isn't the struggle so much as mere continuation of New Good Habits.

As a diabetic I abolutely must keep a Close Watch on this Belly of Mine.....A1c valudes, kidneys/eyeballs/etc....all complications are NOT 'ineveitable' and LBT and the Band have helped tremendously.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
