What's your favorite protein bar?

Recommended Posts

I'm at that point post-op now that I'm trying to switch from Protein Shakes to more solid forms of Protein. I know most of it should come from the foods that I eat but I am still requiring some supplementing. My surgeon prefers that we switch to Protein Bars at this point rather than the shakes so I was wondering....what are your favorite protein bars?

i haven't done much research on all the different Protein bars but i have bought a few. but one day a couple of weeks ago i was out with my husband and wasn't prepared food wise but in his lunch pail i had put in his favorite bar which is a nu go nutrition bar. when i read the back of it i found that the calorie count was less than the Protein Bar i was using and the Protein was higher. and i really liked the taste and it was a very satisfying meal. 170cal. 11g of protein and 23.5 total carbs. which is online with what i am allowed for meals. i don't know how this lines up with other brands but i like it. i find them at costco so the price is good. i am sure someone knows of a better one.

I don't do the bars. I've stayed on Liquid Protein, easier to swallow and it seems to fill me quicker.

I get Quest bars from GNC. they are good Protein and low calories and less than 5 grms sugar... The best one is chocolate chip cookie dough.. but they have a variety of flavors.. I only use them for a quick snack if I am out and about.

I too LOVE the Quest Bars but my favorite is the Peanut Butter jelly and then the chocolate Peanut Butter. Quest is the only bars I can truly say I actually enjoy instead of just tolerate!

I like the Pure Protein bars or the EAS Protein bars. I look for ones that give me the most protein in one shot and the Pure Protein bars have about 30 grams.

These are my favorite, too. I love the chocolate chip cookie dough, and also the vanilla almond crunch. I buy them by the box, and eat one just about every day. Better than Snickers!

I vote Quest bars too!! At GNC around the register, they have single bars (which yes, are pricey, but it's worth it) so I bought one of each kind and tested them out. I prefer the berry one, but the double chocolate was quite delightful the other day when I wanted some chocolate. I take a very sharp kitchen knife and cut them up into small squares and eat them like bon bons. It makes me take smaller bites and eat them slower.

The consistency isn't like other bars, these have no crunch, they are gooey like cookie dough.

PS I keep one in my purse for emergency snacking. <--lol at the term "emergency snacking"!!!

Another thing you can do with Quest Bars is pop them in the micro just a few seconds..it will soften them.. oh I am now loving the chocolate Chunk... they are better than candy or something unhealthy... I also found some Protein bars are funky tasting because they have sugar alcohol which really wrecks my system , but Quest does not have it... GNC has them on sale most of the time you get 4 for the price of 3... I have a gold card too which gives me discounts...They have a new white chocolate raspberry I haven't tried yet but I am sure I will get it soon...

Sharpie - I bought a whole box of white chocolate raspberry, but didn't care for them. I gave the last four to a friend that came on New Years :-) But I do love the chocolate chunk! I almost feel guilty when I eat one.

Thank you for pointing out the sugar alcohol thing. Sugar alcohols really tear my tummy up sometimes. I would've never even thought to check for them in a Protein Bar. I did purchase some of the quest bars prior to my surgery at the recommendation of a friend who swears by them. I had not tried any of them until yesterday. I tried the banana nut, which was ok. I ate it and I could eat it again but NOT something I'd want to eat every day. Today, I tried the chocolate brownie and WOW! What a treat! Now I'm looking forward to trying all of the other flavors!

Quest hands down...... 20 gms of high quality Protein, 5-7 gms of net carbs...... Awesome flavor choices. Some are made with Splenda, some with stevia. Lo Han go is also known as Monk Fruit.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
