Wheezing after eating

Recommended Posts

I was banded in April, 2010. I have lost 110 pounds, and am happy with my weight right now. My band was loosened about two months ago, and my eating has normalized (I was vomiting 4-5 times a day when my band was too tight). Now, however, whenever I eat too much or too fast, I get a horrible wheeze that sounds like advanced asthma, and my voice gets a weird strangling sound to it. I usually have to violently burp to feel better, and sometimes even that doesn't work. Any ideas?

You need to slow down and take that as a soft, or hard, stop sign! Unless you have nothing in your band, you will still have restriction of sorts, so you will still get those stop signs! Maybe you are still too tight! Are you still vomiting? If not, then you probably just need to slow down and not eat too much. Best wishes, Karen..aka..kll724

I hate to state the obvious, but please slow down and take breaks between bites and stick to band-friendly portions. ;)

How about some mindfulness training? When I first started back on real food after my surgery I did some eating with the clock. My little fork up to my mouth with a bite then putting down the fork, taking my hand away. So hard for me to let go of that utensil! Pick it up at thirty seconds -- empty -- to the mouth, feel the sensation of the fork on the lips, then put it back down again. Finally at one minute another bite. This was to teach me what a bite a minute feels like and to get me to slow down. I probably need to practice this again as I'm trying to learn my body's signals for satiety.

Also, as Bandista stated, "her little fork". For a while after surgery or to train myself, I used a toddler utensils. If you don't have them, try the ones plastic ones that come from carryout! I still use a salad plate and the small forks(salad) that come with my silverware. Just having these makes one mindful of the size of food going into their mouths. Karen..aka.kll724

Congratulations on the weight loss. As you stated you "eat too much or too fast". Those go against band rules. Slow down and eat just a half cup of food. Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
