How long til you went back to work/school?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!!

I'm just curious to know how long were you off or did you take off after surgery?

I know everyone's recovery is going to be different but I just wanted an idea!

I'm in nursing school & I also work. I don't want to have to miss too much time, but I willing need be.

Hi excited!

You are so right that everyone is different. I had my surgery as out-patient. I was in by 1pm and home and walking around by 7pm. I was sleeved on Thursday and worked from home the following week. I went back into the office the week after that so technically, I only took 2 days off. But, I was one of the lucky ones... I have had no pain or problems of any kind. The only thing I will say is when I did go back into the office, I could tell that my stamina was shot. By mid-day what little energy I had was completely spent. I overcame this by figuring out how to continually get little bits of Protein in all day long. Once I got my eating/drinking schedule nailed down, my energy was able to last me all day long and I've never looked back. Getting the sleeve was the best decision of my life!

Best of luck to you!

I work at a private school so I have 3 weeks to recover over Christmas break...but if I had to choose when I go back..I would say 2 weeks.

I am 2 weeks post op today and finally feel like myself and feel like I can last all day.

I have had 2.5 weeks off and am starting to feel better. I was very weak at first, and nauseous the first 4 days after surgery. So I would say, plan for the worst, hope for the best. (Can you do it while you have a semester off/summer?)

Well I have Cigna & they require it all to be done within 90 days of approval. If I wait, I would have to start the whole process all over again. &8 definitely do NOT want to do that. I'm so close that I'm about to do a cart wheel!! Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
