HOW TO GUIDE for Chewing and Spitting

Recommended Posts

I am doomed, I can't even spit it out at a wine tasting!

Going to a wine tasting is an entire other spectrum than an ALCOHOLIC swishing alcohol and spitting.

Yes. The only spitting I would advocate doesn't involve chewing first.......

Well, if you're an alcoholic I don't think it's advocated. As it could lead you down a very slippery slope.

I think you are misunderstanding me. Perhaps I should have added a 'lol' to indicate the humorous intent that was perhaps lost on others. Made me giggle though so I am happy.

It's usually the newbies who want justification for continued bad behavior and get upset when there is a dissenting opinion.

I agree with Laura- don't do it. It's a slippery slope which can lead to additional serious eating disorders.

Common now, even us newbies realize how ridiculous and nutty the OP is. Chew and spit? No one likes teeth and I prefer to swallow. ;)

I did not mean to offend you. I'm not saying all newbies have such ridiculous thoughts. However, it has historically been people who are new to the forum, that try to stir things up, and are seeking approval for bad habits. I'm glad you're not one of them and welcome to the forum. Good luck to you.

Admins are not here to censor people. They are here to make sure forum rules are not being broken and it's my thought that this provoked some important conversation about a serious eating disorder. I am glad the OP deleted his original post so as not to encourage more disordered habits, but the discussion that followed is needed as this is an issue that comes up regularly. :)

Just my opinion!

If you didn't read the original thread...consider yourself lucky. It was a long diatribe about safe and practical ways to chew and spit. It was a terrible case of enabling a nasty eating disorder. The admins were all over this thread immediately, but no rules were broken so no censoring needed to be done. It was however, horribly irresponsible and in completely poor taste.

I normally don't like it when an OP deletes his original thread, but in this case I'm glad he did. It was just too reckless and someday, some one was going to read it and feel it was a green light to start a brand new eating disorder that was not present in their lives prior to WLS.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
