Maybe it's just me or the fact that it's been months without a response to the questions, but I'm beginning to doubt dezzi.

I am 11 months post-op and have not experienced any problems with infections. The surgery placed many other medical problems that I had into remission, so I am pleased by the results.

A study lead by Dr. Anita Copurcoulas, researched 1700 patients, three years after surgery and reported the results. Here is a link.

Hello all. I'm in Northern CA and have hit goal weight for surgery. Having RNY procedure at Kaiser soon. Today is second re-surgery psych evaluation, then hopefully put on surgery list. I am 53, male, 6'5" 330 former college athlete, with sleep apnea, reflux and arthritis in knees.

Any feedback on others' conditions like mine post-surgery would be greatly appreciated. Also, any advice on local support groups on East Bay Alameda County?

Thanks.

I am 11 months post-op on gastric bypass RNY. Although I have not been tested for sleep apnea, I was snoring so loud that it kept my wife awake. This condition went on for over 4 years before surgery. The specialist that examined me thought I had sleep apnea. After surgery this condition has gone into remission around 2 weeks after the operation. I sleep so quiet now that my wife wakes up in the middle of the night and snuggles up to me to see if I am still breathing. I sleep so quietly she thinks I am dead.

I also was bothered by acid reflux for around a year before the surgery. This problem went away also. But I don't know if this is a fair tests. To protect my stomach and help in the healing process, I have been routinely prescribed by my surgeon with Omeprazole for the first year after surgery, which is the same thing as Prilosec. Since Prilosec treats heartburn and reflux, I would say it is too soon to tell long term. I should be off the Omeprazole in about a month, then I will know for sure.

Hello Everyone,

I am 9 1/2 months out from band to bypass. I thought I would try to answer a few of your questions based on my Mom's experience. She had surgery in 1992 and is very healthy. She was in her early 40s when she had the surgery. She was never one to really take her Vitamins until I started taking mine. She does however do a monthly B12 shot which works fine for her. She is rarely sick and if so it's an occasional once every few years. She does still have high blood pressure but I think it's from all the pork she eats not to mention it's way better than what it was. She has managed to only gain about 35 pounds total since her lowest weight. When she decides she wants to take those extra pounds off she just commits to walking and the weight melts away. She still eats very small portion but can tolerate a drink at the same time. She enjoys a diet Pepsi a few times a week. She often about not having any regrets and is glad that I decided to have the operation. She was one of the ones that had to have the open surgery because they weren't doing the lap ones then. Her Doctor often ask her to be a spokesperson for his practice but she doesn't like the way she looks in her before photos. She's very energetic, loves to dance and still has a lot of fun shopping! She still parties and has drinks on the weekend with her friends and family with no problems.

I hope this answers some of your questions as I couldn't remember them all but I thought that everyone basically wanted to know about the long terms effects. She inspired me so I hope that her story can help at least one of you. She's very supportive of my surgery and is one of my main cheerleaders especially since I haven't told anyone else outside of my children, husband and two close girlfriends oh and my dad. I'm one of the ones that prefers to do this in private and share once I've satisfied my own goals.

If any of you come up with some other questions you can post them and I will try to respond to them even if it means asking my Mom questions which isn't a problem because we talk about the surgery often. Good Luck!

Hi !! thank you for responding to my inquiry I wanted so much to touch base with someone who had the surgery for a while. I am 21 and about to undergo the procedure but was uneasy about the long term effects on my body down the road. My concerns are and I will list them... 1. How are you feeling after all these years? 2. Have you any regrets about having this done? 3. Has the surgery and lack of nutrients affected your bones or health negatively long term? 4. If you had children, did it effect your ability to go full term? Were you able to provide enough nutrients to the baby? 5. Was getting sick with things like the flu harder to get over? 6. Did you have PCOS before? If so, did the surgery cure that? Did you suffer with more stomach issues due to the surgery? 7. Did you go through menopause? If so, was it normal? I know its a lot of questions and your probably thinking what did I get myself into but these are just some of the concerns I have at this point and the answers you give me Will be so much help. I know I will have more as my procedure comes closer but for now I am so very grateful for your help!

I will try to answer your questions.

1)I am 10 years out and feeling great.

2)I regret the fact that I have regained some weight and it is a huge struggle to get it off. This happened at 4 years post RNY and after my 2nd baby and back surgery. I do not regret the surgery as I am still about 100lbs lighter than I was.

3) Due for a dexascan, but as of 2 years ago, bones were still fine.

4) I had 2 babies after surgery. Got pregnant 9 mos post op for the first one. The babies took what they needed and both were full term. They were 7lb 1oz and 7lb 2oz...compared to my 6lb 11oz and 7lb 8oz babies before surgery. Perfectly healthy.

5) Have not hardly gotten sick at all since surgery. I think I am much healthier and eat much better. I don't even tend to get sick when my kids bring funk home from school.

6) yes, I had/have PCOS. It never really goes away. My periods are now regular and I started ovulating on my own...hence the 2 babies! My first pregnancies I had to use fertility meds.

7) have not gone thru menopause.

I'm 12 years post op. Happy to answer anything I can.

How is your overall health?

How much did you lose?

Have you regained any?

Do you have any conditions that were escalated by your wls?

My health is pretty good. I'm almost 41 and I am pretty active with my three kids. High weight was 310. Now 135. I had a regain three years ago and I got back up to 234! I'm now back to 135, lately been sick and I'm in the 120s. No conditions bothered by my WLS.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
