How many of you take a preventative antacid everyday and what do you take? I really don't want to add one more pill everyday, but starting to think I might need to.

My surgeon sent me home with a 2 month supply of prescription strength Omeprazole 40mg with very strict rules not to stop early. Unlike the OTC version (Prilosec), it comes in capsule form with tiny beads inside. I just open the capsule and pour the contents on my tongue and take a drink of Water to wash it down. I take it before bed since reflux often happens when we are lying down, sleeping.

Just about all of us are put on prilosec post op. I'm on month 3 of mine...and plan on keeping it. I actually may need to up it to twice a day. .I've had acid issues at night this past week.

Dont ever stop taking it cold turkey....most doctors dont explain that you can get acid rebound and it will hurt. You have to wean very slowly.

I take mine twice a day...but I am just 2 weeks post op... I do the OTC and mine has the beads in it...But I may ask for a script because its cheaper then OTC for us...my 4 year old is on it...just 10.00 a month and we take the same dose.

I never had heartburn in my life. I took the over the counter pepcid (for 6 weeks as directed) then stopped. Not to long after that I started getting the worst heartburn, ever I kept a huge bottle of tums by my bed and was chewing them like 15 times a day. I went on prevacid and have been taking it daily. Im 7 and a half months oyt. If I dont take it, I feel ravenous within 24 hours. I think im starving but im not its the acid. I take so many Vitamins I just consider it another Vitamin. Lol, better than wanting to eat everything.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
