has anyone else been rejected by Dr. Malley?

Recommended Posts

He cut me open to do the surgery, then doesn't do it, he said that my liver is too large and that I need to lose 20 lbs before he can try again. You know, If he had told me to lose it before the first surgery, I might have been able to do it. But now, I'm suprised that I haven't gained 50 more pounds just from the pressure of trying to lose the 20. And don't bother to try and speak to anyone in that office or look for anyone to empathize with you. They just say the same things over and over again. YOU need to lose the weight. Well, the whole reason I wanted to have the Lap-Band done was because I CAN'T lose weight on my own. I am so upset over the whole thing! Don't use Dr. Malley if you can help it. Find another doctor before you try him out. He is located in Kansas.

Wow- How awful for you. I am in KS and looking for doctor, i can not even believe how mortified you are. I pray they didn't even begin to charge you for anything. Oh that makes me so angry- we struggle daily with "stupid" comments from people then to "trust" doctor to help us and he does that, please accept my appology for him and find you another doctor! Keep your chin up.

I think you should file complaint with all agencies.

Thank you for telling us and good luck. I still love Dr. Lopez and Heartland spine and specialty is immaculate, too. I am pretty sure the price was $10,200 for self pay, but great west paid mine. Be sure to get everything in writing if you are going to an out of network place that promises to give you in network price. Everything to the last penny.

Dr. Lopez is checking into him being with Great West.

Glad you are so happy!

Didn't they put you on a pre-op diet? Did they do a consult with you about what to do before the banding? If they didn't do anything or explain anything, then yes, I'd file a complaint.

I went today for my pre-op "orientation" and was put on the pre-op diet. They didn't say I had to lose a specific amount of weight, but they did explain that the main reason is to shrink the liver. I was told that they did stop the procedure for one person who's liver didn't "go down" in size and was "fatty."

I hope you're able to continue on with a better informing doctor.

NoLap-Band4me,

Have you checked out Weight Loss Surgical Center--? This is who is doing my surgery. Dr. Ellison is wonderful...he did my best friends surgery earlier this year. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They're located at 135th just off of 69 Hwy in Overland Park.

Good luck!!

Dr. Malley sounds awful. I would run from him. To cut someone open and tell them after that they need to lose 20 pounds to have bariatric surgery? That's monstrous.

Did he ask you to lose some weight prior to surgery? He does my fills but I was banded in Tijuana MEXICO. I was on a preop diet of slimfast for a week prior to shrink the liver. Did they ask you to diet at all before the procedure? Interesting..............sorry you had to go thru this.

Dr. Malley did my surgery- he does ask that you follow a liquid high Protein diet for two weeks prior to surgery to shrink your liver-- if you don't follow instructions you cannot expect for everything to be perfect-- I'm sure he tried as hard as he could to band you but if the liver is too large it is virtually inpossible to see the area of the stomach he needs to see to safely do the procedure.

I feel bad for you but make this a lesson to follow instructions --they don't ask things of you to just make it hard on you-- it is for your safelty..

I personally know two people that eroded. Both were banded by different docs and not Malley. Both had their bands for a number of years before they eroded, both went to only Dr. Malley for fills, both developed port infections due to poor sterile technique during fills, and both lost their bands due to infection traveling up the tubing to the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
