throat burns

Recommended Posts

For some time now, my throat feels heated with slight burning all the time as if it's raw from acid damage. I think I have nasal drip to my throat and I always have to clear my throat. I think I may have trouble with reflux and worried this is damaging my throat. Having an UGI Friday. Some days I can eat fine and other days I can't.

I have the same issue....and concerns. I do have what's called "silent reflux", which effects the throat, larynx and vocal chords. Here is a link to more info. http://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/guide/laryngopharyngeal-reflux-silent-reflux It was diagnosed by my ear, nose & throat doctor long before I had band surgery. I go on and off Prilosec for periods of time, which helps dramatically.

Over the past couple of months I've had a huge problem with it. Although, I've also had a recurring upper respiratory virus, so it's difficult to know what's what. Your doctor will know more after the test. There are a lot of viruses going around right now, that cause a lot of the post nasal drip, sore throat, etc. you mention. Once you rule out that, you'll know what you're dealing with. I'll be interested to know the outcome of your UGI.

Good luck - I hope you feel better sooner than later.

If you eat late and then go to bed, acid will build up and give you reflux. Reflux can also damage your esophagus. I am glad that you are going to the doctor for an upper gi! Karen..aka..kll724

Most lap banders with TIGHT restriction will suffer from this eventually. The ONLY ways to deal with this is to remove a small amount of saline...and just don't eat much with a very tight band especially late at night.

The MORE food you eat with a tight band will create reflux and acid issues and may cause other issues like slips. This is why many who get their band very tight, only eat puree foods, or drink Protein drinks and after they've lost their weight they remove a little saline where they can eat solids without getting reflux and damaging their esophagus

.

Also getting on a PPi' like Protonix helps many with the lap band that have acid damage to their esophagus. Acid damage from the band usually takes a very strong PPi like protonix to heal acid damage.

It is very challenging to eat solid food with a very tight band.

Good luck.

Lumpy -- please run --- do not walk --- you a good gastroterologist immediately! This problem can be addressed but if you do not attend to it --- it can be very dangerous. This is nothing to fool around with. Don't be afraid --- just Go and do what you are told to do. Best wishes.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
