9 day post opt -- rice pudding?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm 9 days post opt and on the full liquid diet for 14 days. I'm beyond sick of broth, plain yogurt w/dasani drops, Water, and sf pudding. Anyhow while at the market to purchase more Jello pudding i saw something called rice pudding. It's 90 calories and has 5 grams of sugar per serving (which is about a 4oz cup).

I'm wondering if it's okay to eat that at this stage? My full liquid plan says i can have pudding but no Soup with chunks. I assume rice pudding has chunks, so i'm thinking it's a no. I know i need to talk to my nutritionist but it's New Years Day so her office is closed.

If anyone can offer advice or tell me if rice pudding was okay on your diet that'd be great since i probablywon't be able to get in touch with my nutritionist until 10 tomorrow.

My doctor's diet did not include rice until five weeks out. I think you'd be better off choosing a sugar-free version and no rice this early out, but that's my opinion. If you're not sure, check with your doctor or nutritionist.

I'd say no to the rice pudding. Carbs--the enemy, especially early on. You'll have scale-stalls later on, so don't slow down your weight loss at this point with needless carbohydrates/starches. But...check with your doc or their nutritionist.

There's a zillion different non broth Soups you can try...cream of asparagus, mushroom, chicken, celery, spinach, shrimp, etc. Most of these come condensed so I dilute them and then run them through a mesh strainer. And if you are only drinking chicken or beef broths, there is also Strained lobster bisque, Tortilla Soup base, hot and sour base, strained French onion, etc. I also add unflavored Protein powder to them so I'm getting plenty of Protein without having to drink so many shakes. I've been on full liquids for 9 days and have had something different every day. (I'm not allowed pudding until puréed stage which is day 18)

BTW, just noticed our tickers are almost identical :)

I'd go with no. It has lumps which are a no-go.

That's what I figured. *sigh* guess it's back to SF double chocolate Jello pudding and chobani (I cannot WAIT until my first meal on the 8th!! My husband is making chili and I purchased a nice little food processor that purees, chops, slices, grates, minces and a bunch of other stuff)

Ugh, the dreaded stalls. I hear that most people lose a lot of weight during this time, so I'll agree with you about not slowing down my lost. Are carbs really the enemy? I thought that they are okay but in moderation. Like, don't eat a huge plate of mac and cheese or rice, but it's okay to have a slice of whole wheat toast a couple times a week. I'll have to talk to my nutritionist because I don't have a good understanding of how food effects our banana tummies now. All I know is sugar and salt are bad.

It's always a pleasure to meet a Ticker Twin! You're right, we're really close. So hopefully that means we'll be on the loser bench at our goal weights around the same time. B)

Thank you for all the suggestions. I didn't know they have a cream of lobster or shrimp. I've been eating only Trader Joe broth which are all delicious, but vegetable based, so I miss meat, but can't stomach anymore clear beef or chicken broth. YECK. I tried to give away all my unused clear broth to my mom, but she swears once I can put other stuff in it (like pot roast) I'll like the broth again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
