Unexpected... I feel fatter now?

Recommended Posts

I've lost darn near 50 lbs and almost half of my excesses weight. I look and feel great, but... I feel so much fatter now than I did the last time I was this weight. For the first time in my life I'm squishy and hangy. I hate it. I have such great skin, which runs in my family, never even got any stretch marks even with having kids. My skin just always bounced back. Even my surgeon said he didn't think I would have any skin issues. But, alas, I'm embarrassed by my body. What kind of sick joke is this that I've finally lost all this weight and now I feel gross? Not fair, just sayin. Really hope it gets better. What a mixed bag of emotions.

About the feeling fat thing, I also feel fat. Are you in a smaller size now that feels snug ? Also, we've been overweight so long probably that we have a skewed image of ourselves, like it's hard to get used to our new size. I don't know how old you are, but someone on my other support site said, a lot of times it depends on age whether or not you skin bounces back or not.. I'm 62 and had a saggy kangaroo pouch before and I have one also now. My upper arms make me feel like I have wings and could take off. My surgeon will help with insurance for plastic surgery but we have to wait a year.

I hear ya... When you're fat, you're filled out. Plump. Shiny. Healthy glow.

Now, for me, its a bit like looking at a deflated balloon and I haven't even shed that much in comparison to some.

I often ask myself; is filled out skin sexier than deflated skin? Irrespective of your size?

Who knows... Maybe it's just all in our heads?

Thank goodness for Spanx!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
