I'm not much of a Breakfast eater really. However, recently noticed that I seem tighter early morning and have trouble eating foods that I normally have no problems eating. Does anyone know why this would be??

Almost everyone with the band is tighter in the mornings and most have to do shakes or yogurt or runny oatmeal its just part of the band process. Most of us drink something warm and wait a while to try to eat breakfast.

I start my day with a shake. A couple of hours later I will have yogurt. By lunch, I'm all loosened up and ready to go...

I've been trying to figure out my morning mode -- happy to be a little tight and definitely not hungry. I drink tea, work out, etc. and recently I've been doing Protein Shakes with frozen fruit. Yummy! And I like the idea of already being ahead protein-wise.

I'm glad to hear that others have encountered the same problem. I have trouble getting my Protein in and I really hate Protein Shakes, and so my NUT recommended I eat lunch/dinner foods. That's how I discovered the morning tightness thing.

Our bands feel tighter in the morning because the stomach tissues retain Water while we are sleeping--like many organs. So the stomach swells a bit with this edema, and we sense a tighter band. Once we are vertical and active, gravity works to reduce the swelling (this Fluid moves downwards hence the cankle effect) and our band feels looser.

I eat a regular breakfast, but a very small one. I do ok, but I have to be very careful

I would also say if you are drinking the proper amount of Water daily you should not be retaining Water at night. You have to flush the impurities out of you system and that is only done by drinking plenty of water.

My surgeon warned me that once I was at proper fill I should plan on starting the day with a Protein shake the rest of my banded life because for what ever reason, the band is tighter in the mornings. 80% of his office staff are banded and they echoed his advise. I rarely have anything but coffee the first hour I am awake, then I have a fruit/vegetable/protein smoothie. Trying to get anything solid down before I have been out of bed for a couple of hours is a very iffy proposition.

BTW, I have noticed being tighter even if I am grabbing a 30 minute mid day nap, may have something to do prone position.

I have not been able to eat a solid Breakfast in almost 3 years now....I start the day with a Home Made smoothie, high in Protein with fresh fruit, etc....

My Dr. also said this is not uncommon and warned me of it early on.......have thoughts on why this is, but not get into it now....

Besides....when you look at all the benefits combined in one of my smoothies....how much, and what kinds of foods could could I possibly eat to match it???

I, almost, always start my morning with a cup of hot coffee. Later I will have a Protein smoothie with fruit. I seldom have a"real" Breakfast anymore. Karen...aka...kll724

It depends for me. Some mornings I can have breakfast after coffee and sometimes I cant but I can at least get in a greek yogurt or oatmeal. I have to eat something in the morning because no shake is going to keep me until lunch time.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
