Hi...I willl you well and every success in your journey......why did you choose Dr. Joya ? I had my surgery in July in New York and I have already lost 100 pounds.....I first was going to go to Mexico and then,,decided to find a surgeon in the USA..... I think that there is a fine bariatric program in Miami ? All the best......always......

Hi. I chose Mexico because my insurance doesnt cover it. Its 1/3 the price in Mexico. I did a lot of research before making that decision. I chose Dr.Joya after much research also. Scary but praying this is the right decision

Hi Jaclyn: I wish you all the very best in your upcoming surgery...I too, was going to go to Mexico(with a differnt surgeon) After I did my due diligence and lots of research on the surgeon...I decided to find someone in the USA. I have lousy insurance however,it took me nine months and going through the process before the surgery was done....I had to see several doctors....i.e:) a primary care physician,a pumonoligist,an endoscopy,a colonoscopy,a cardiologist,a psychiatrist and a nutrisionist...and monthly visits with the primary care doctor and pre surgery weight loss and afew meetings with the surgeon. I was so glad to have found this surgeon and his way of managing the bariatric process,At times, I felt upset and frustrated since I wanted the VSG immediately....it took time and thinking it through.....and, for me....it was the only way to reach my goal....in a safe manner... And now, I have lost a little over 100 pounds(surgery was in July)...I am happy that I made the decision to find a program that was comprehensive in nature.....for me, I almost went to Mexico and that would not have been the right thing to do. Since you live in Florida....I understand that there is a great bariatric center at the large Miami teaching hospital ? Have you explored their program or others like it ? Stay well and wishing you every success........all the best for a joyous and Happy and Healthy New Year......:)

I couldn't fight my insurance. I have no secondary conditions and have only 80-90 pounds to lose. Please don't judge my decision to have surgery. didn't make it lightly. I think most people would think im crazy to have surgery with so "little" to lose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
