Good morning & happy new year all!

Sooooo...got on the scale today (which btw I am always a but paranoid about), and I've gained 2 lbs! WTH?? I started soft foods the day after Christmas and honestly I struggle with getting in 2 ounces! I found this Protein drink in a convenience store called Core Power (26gm of protein) and have been having one here & there but I'm also concerned that many foods have high doses of sodium and wonder if this has something to do with the gain? I've been adding ham to my scrambled eggs (I might eat 1-2 tbsp) but this is frustrating!! I joined a gym and have been doing the treadmill & recumbent bike.

Can anyone offer suggestions on this? I read it's normal to have a stall but I'm not liking this.

Thank you

Up your Water, keep eating and ride it on out....

Nowt much that can be done, sadly.

It'll drop in a week or so.. then you'll be groovy.. then you'll stall again.

It kinda sucks like that :D

I steer clear of sodium, and ham, but over Christmas, 5 weeks out, I nibbled a bit. I weigh about 3-4 days and my scale is barely moving. I think we all hit those thoughts of what am I doing wrong. Now I am laid up 5 days with gout in my big toe, cannot walk, and am praying to get on the move again. Happy New Year! Thankful for my blessings and my sleeve!

Funny, I am almost 4 weeks post op too and also saw a 2 lb gain on the scale!!! It's from drinking wine though....so today I am only having Protein shakes and broth to see if that gives me a big drop.

I am also almost 4 weeks post op and am on a slight stall. From what I can see, it is normal and we should stick to the plan and we will be on track again!

Just keep pushing. I also had a stall at 4 weeks. You have to let your body adjust to the new life. The new food and the new workouts. Remember you are also building muscles. Even walking on a treadmill will build muscles. The scale doesn't always show you the real truth. You will start losing again.

I'm 3.5 weeks out and also seem to be in a stall. However, I've been measuring my waist and lost 1 inch in 3 days while my weight remained the same.

I'll chime in at 9 weeks. My weight has gone up 1-2 pounds several times; almost always followed by a drop of 2-3 pounds. There are 100 reasons this could be happening: salt intake, increased exercise, too much food, too little food…Just to give you a gross example, this morning when I woke up I weighed in at 198. My ticker is at 194(.6 really…) from a Tuesday weigh in. Turns out, after drinking about 28 ounces in fluids and losing what seemed to be half my body weight in a series of BMs…I'm back down to 196. The cough medicine didn't agree with me. I never weigh twice in a day but was interested to see. (And as for my ticker, maybe I gained 2 pounds from Tuesday, but maybe I didn't. It is also TOM.) Again, these blips are quite common for me. All that truly matters is that week to week (or month to month) I see loss.

The point is, I didn't lose 4 pounds in 2 hours. It's water/fluids/whatever. The only measurements you can truly trust are the ones that show up over a time period.

And although I'm sure it sounds like we're beating a dead horse: eat clean. Push fluids. Move around. The weight will go down.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
