New whey protein shots

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share these "shots" that I found. They are a little pricey, but they have 42grams of Protein in 3.5 ounced of Fluid. They are very sweet and taste ok. I like they grape. They come in handy if you are having trouble getting your Protein in. I am still in my liquids phase, but beyond that I plan on keeping a couple on hand for when I need that extra protein I didnt get in my diet. You can find them at Walmart too.

Don't go there. They get their protein from collagen and Gelatin, which are low quality Proteins your body can't use. If you search this forum for "collagen" you will find more info. I bought these too because they say whey Protein isolate and caesin protein isolate in addition to the hydrolized collagen.

I use these as well. My nut/physician recommended them. They allow me to get a large amount of Protein in a small volume and given that most Protein drinks make me gag is helpful. While I have competed in a triathlon, I don't think my metabolic needs are as high as triathlete. If you look at more research, especially bodybuilding, it is recommended. Given that I plan to use them only for a short time until I transition to a full diet, I am not too worried about the perceived poor quality.

I drink the Acai berry and watermelon for Breakfast. Bottoms up!

I will read the article.

My surgeon suggests them also...I only plan on using them while on my full liquids phase then just having them as a back up when I move into full phase of eating. But I will research them some more.

I really like your attitude :) great response.... when I was newer on this forum there was a lot of discussion about these. I never researched them myself but the general consensus was that they wouldn't be absorbed properly and best not to use them. This was back in October or before.

Thank you Seela.... If anyone ever offers advice on something and has stuff to back it up...I do look at it then make the best choice for myself. I actually haven't had one in a few days and I do have others ways to get Protein in and I would rather do it with something that is good quality.

Thank you mama spike for the information.

You all are so helpful.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
