Hot Flash Woman is Cold Woman now. I thought the hot flashes would never end - it's been 12 years. I will count this phenomenon as a perk. Today I am toddling around the house in flannel pajamas which I had bought years ago but could never wear. I even had an extra blanket on my side of the bed last night. Last winter I slept with a window cracked open.

You lucky dogs! I wish I was cold all the time. I'm sposed to be - I have hypothryroidism. I just moved to So Ca 2 mths ago (from Or) and it's averages the last month have been 75-80. I sleep with the window open too (88 yr old FIL keeps the thermostat at 83) and shorts.

Wish I was cold....

Where in So Cal are you? It's been warm down here definitely!

I am 4 months out and consider myself a hardy New Englander, used to the cold but have been absolutely freezing this winter. At our support group we learned this is a side-effect of the weight loss as you lose layers of insulation from the loss of fat. I still enjoy the outdoors and am taking ski lessons this winter - am I nuts or what???? I dress in layers. I wear long underwear - and I mean really good long underwear, insulated tops and then a wool sweater or sweatshirt or fleece. I nearly always wear a warm scarf at work. I wear wool socks, bought alpaca liners for the soles of my shoes, nearly always wear boots, put a heating pad on my recliner, have one of those blankets with sleeves, an infra-red quartz heater and a gas fireplace. Sometimes I get so cold I can't get warmed up. Going to bed, I dress in layers, wear the long johns and fleece PJs and socks, have a flannel covered down comforter and a fleece throw and a heater and a humidifier (humidity helps a lot) plus I have my 2 dogs sleep on top or next to me. I've finally learned how to stay warm. One thing that has helped me has been virgous exercise. I wear layers of clothes to the gym and by the time I finish, I'll be warmed up for a few hours. Being active and facing the challenge of bundling up and going outside everyday for some type of activity has helped me adjust to the cold.

Wow...if being cold is the case for most of you, I suppose I'll turn into a human icicle! I have hypothyroid and am chilled all the time...suffer all the time with cold hands and feet. I'm going to talk about it again with my PCP in a couple of weeks as my Synthroid hasn't helped at all. Maybe somehow my hypothyroid will resolve itself after I get sleeved, but I'm not feeling too optimistic about that. Guess I'll just have to be prepared to be cold all the time! :)

I am always cold also. As a matter of fact my feet are freezing right now. It is a pain but I would rather be cold and slim then fat and warm. I'm sure ya'll all feel the same.

I agree with the heated mattress pad. I have had one for years - before surgery I would turn it on about an hour before bedtime, hop in bed, the turn it off because I got too warm during the night. Since surgery, I turn it on High about an hour before bed and leave it on all night!

Yes, yes, yes. It's crazy. I can be in two fleece blanket in my house and still be cold.

Here is another thread about being cold, so you know you are not alone.

I am 3 years out this Jan;) and I have been freezing ever since I first left the hospital ! It's crazy I have never been cold but now always... In the summer it's great but the winters not so great .. I never a had a jacket before the Surgery and now I have many! Sometimes I have to several warm showers just to get warm before getting in bed.. No chance of getting an electrics blacker if I want to still sleep with my husband ;) he stays Hot all the time so he's my own personal heater.. But at work it's tough too I have a space heater under my desk and I have to the sink and run hot Water to thaw out my hands a couple times a day.. People think I'm crazy;) small price to pay I guess ..

I am new to the sleeve, so I am not sure if this is a new normal, or the fact that it is -4 degrees outside. But in terms of the sexiness factor, there is something to be said my thick socks, blankets, flannel, and of course the C-Pap. Make him work for it you gorgeous ladies! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
