Recommended Posts

I just got banded December 27. Everyday seems a little better . I still am feeling nauseous when I eat. I was just wondering how long till you start feel normal again?

I feel similar my banding was December 26, the bloating is terrible, hope it goes down soon. Lets just stick to our liquid diet and hope for the best.

"Normal" is a relative concept. Your belly is getting accustomed to having a restriction around it. It could take a week, it could take a month. Every one is different.

i think that most ppl are okay around the 2 week mark. but everyone is different. use a heating pad for gas pain, ice pack for incisional pain, drink lots of liquids warm tea helps with the gas and walk. also don't forget pain medicaitons. they are prescribed for a reason. but a lot of ppl like ibuprophen over tylenol. good luck and happy healing

I remember feeling alittle bit better everyday after surgery...by 7 days out I was back to work (teaching) and by 2 weeks feeling like myself. Still taking it slow but so much more "normal".

Be patient and focus on healing....

Wishing you a happy and healthier 2014!! :)

I was banded on the 18th. I'm going back to work in the morning. I'm ready to go back but I definitely do not feel that my digestive system is back to normal. I figure it will come with time.

Everyone is different...I was climbing the walls by day 3, went back to the office on day 5, day 7 was my one week post surgical appointment when I was released to go back to the gym...which I did right away....that day!

I did tire easily, but that was probably due to the fact I did not have anything substantial to eat all week....

Warning: Graphic explanation ahead.

I know we were all told this was minimally invasive, but I beg to differ:

So I'm sorry to be too graphic here but remember, someone filled your body cavity full of gas, they pumped fluids, medications, antibiotics and anesthesia into your body. They punched 5 holes in your abdomen, moved all your inner body parts around, shoved a tube down your throat, took an electric scalpel and burned away excess fat and tissue wrapped around your upper stomach, then wrapped a plastic strap around your stomach just below the lower esophogeal sphincter, stitched it in place with 5-6 sutures bringing your lower stomach up and over the band and then snaked a tube out of your body and then sewed another plastic piece to the muscle tissue on your rib cage.

Took me about 8 days to feel somewhat normal but the incisions were still itchy and oozed, and I still had an anesthesia hangover.

I felt great in 3 days and went shopping. Within 1 week I shopped 2 hours and had a ball. I have more energy than I have had in 5 years. Not hungry, not having to stop and eat, just feeling like a million!!!!!!

No pain meds. Relax while you can but you will be running the streets before long ll!

Yeah, no pain meds for me either. They spell doom for my GI system.

Tomuchfun is exactly right, and it took e about 3- 4 days to actually be able to get up and feel I could walk normal and feel good but it took about 2 weeks before I felt like y self again and yes the pain meds were very helpful , till I didn't have pain getting up , then I stopped the meds, form me it was 2 weeks.

It was about a week for me also. We were in the middle of a basement renovation so that's meant endless trips to lowe's and buying furniture etc. I got a little tired, but I would just sit to rest for a few min and then continue on. That was when I got into the habit of always having a bottle of Water with me to sip on. Something I still do now.

I was banded on Friday, went back to work on Monday, but didn't feel normal until around Thursday of Friday of week after banding. Then it wasn't totally normal, but very doable. It just takes time. Theres lots of swelling and bruising that just has to run its coarse.

The main thing, if you go to the mall, or walking, make your walk slow. Right now, you are not in the race, you are just trying to heal. I, also, went shopping. Hubby on one side and pushing a grocery cart, once it got too heavy, gave it to hubby. My point is, you might nee a support system if you go shopping. Normal is relative, one persons normal is not the same as others normal. I never felt "normal" for a long time. Normal for me, was to eat a huge 3 course meal, most of the time you won't be able to do so once you are adjusted properly. Normal was to sit around, once I got my lapnad, and was feeling better, I did not sit around, I, like B-52, was at the gym daily. So, going for your normal is not always where you want to be. Best wishes and happy New Year and new you. Karen..aka..kll724

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
