marfar7 1,533 Posted December 30, 2013 Every single morning this past week the heartburn starts about 4 am and lasts till noonish (making my am cup of coffee miserable). I take 20mg of Prilosec 2x a day (admit tingly I take 40mg at nite now) and chewing Tums constantly. Is this my future? I've been watching what I put in my mouth at nite (last nite I didn't eat anything after 7) and I still had heartburn. Do I need a different PPI? Pepcid didn't work (took it post op and returned to my post band slip reflux Prilosec and it worked perfectly - till last week) Anyone a yr and more post op who has nagging recurring heartburn and just live with it forever? I moved out of state 2 mths ago so it's impossible to see my bariatric dr

ribearty 544 Posted December 30, 2013 Is your coffee caffeinated? My doc's office says caffeine can cause acid and gerd. I take Dexilant for heartburn. I had it very bad with my lapband for over three years. My doctor has you take a PPI for 6 months post op and then if you no longer have problems, he discontinues it. So far since my sleeve I have had no problems.
michelle68 46 Posted December 31, 2013 Sometimes reflux can flare up....usually do to illness or foods provoking it. I will look at the foods you have been eating, make sure there is nothing in there that could be causing it. You also could swith PPI's to see if it helps...but if not..you should go see a GI doctor...they ight scope you to make sure all is OK. You could have developed a hernia as well.
