Hello! My name is Jamie and I'm from Manitoba, Canada. (-39 here today...yay!) I have been diagnosed with endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and I'm insulin resistant. I just turned 30 on Xmas eve, I'm married and because I'm infertile, hubby and I foster. We have three wonderful children 13, 7, and 4. I'm currently in school working towards my Masters in Social Work. I have a wonderfully fulfilling life; however, at my peak I weighed 256lbs. I was always tired and frustrated with my weight as we eat relatively healthy as a family.

Early in 2013 I told my husband I wanted a gastric sleeve and did a ton of research. We found that Mexico would be the best option, as Canada would do it for free but would take several years after jumping through a million hoops. December 9, I had the surgery done and have zero regrets. Since pre-op diet on December 2, I went from 245 to 213! I feel wonderful!

I have to say thank you to all your posts and for this community. I would have had no clue about most things regarding nutrition without your help. See, I had the surgery and because it was two countries away I do not have a nutritionist. I new Protein was important but no idea how important! Around day 15 I started feeling light headed and dizzy. Clearly not getting enough protein and nutrients. Well I've now started a good journal and already today I've had an egg with cheese and some plain Greek yogurt. Drank 8oz of Water as well. Feeling much better! I don't know where I'd be without reading countless posts by you all! Oh, and I made the egg muffin recipe and the white fish with Greek yogurt dill sauce. Mmmmmmmmm!! So good!

Looking forward to posting and reading more! :)

Hi, Fostermama! Congrats to you.

While you're younger than me, you situation is similar to mine (PCOS, insulin resistance, etc - and I'm a northerner...Montana). This is a life-changer, that's for sure. I haven't felt this good and years - probably 15 years - and there's better things to come for all of us. 2014 is going to be a great year!

Wishing you continued success on your journey!

Yay! Another Canadian joins the club :) congrats on your success so far! You are right about waiting awhile, I was about 1.5 years from start to actual gastric-sleeve surgery in Canada.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
