January's 2014 Bandsters Welcome!

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday. Surgery went smooth but last night was really tough. I had a lot of nausea and was afraid to take my pain meds because I didn't want to throw up. Today has been better but still quite a bit of pain. I haven't had anything but Water since Friday night. Wondering if I should try something else as well. Its very weird and bit liberating not to feel hungry!

I was banded on the 15th, all went well with surgery. However, The bloating is awful, I have never been so hungry and full at the same time. I think I have cried more the last two days than I have in the last two years. But, at the same time I don't regret anything, I'm glad I've done this, just saying for anyone who is considering Lap band, please be prepared for the emotional part of this. I kept telling myself, girl you had two children you can do this, its different....the pain of having a child is instantly rewarded as soon as you hold and see that child....it will be six months to a year to be rewarded for this. But it will come! Well I've ranted enough....I'll go sip on my watered down apple juice......I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow and be more positive.

I was told your hormones are stored in the body fat. As you lose weight it releases those hormones. Maybe, that is the reason for the up and down emotions. Expect more.

I was the same way. I am on week 2, full liquids and just stopped feeling so full and bloated. I think most of that was gas from surgery. I was fine in the beginning but the past few days i been feeling the hunger. I think its bcuz we r healing but lack the fills so we dont have the feeling of restriction. I try to continue drinking to keep myself full.

BillieG i felt exactly the same, towards the end of the first week of all liquids, I was really starting to feel the hunger kick in. Even on mushies this week, I was finding I could actually eat a whole bowl of Soup - granted over about 90 minutes. Mushies was the most boring for me, as I had no time to make anything and pretty much lived on mashed potato, sauce and some chunky Soup. This week I am working hard on getting Protein in, so have boiled some eggs to mush up and will get some Protein shake too. I read a lot about people putting weight on between surgery and their first fill due to the lack of restriction, so I am doing my best to keep my head in the game and almost pretend I have a fill and am making really eating slower and slower and chewing more and more. Am so conscious now. Good Luck everyone, and Missy I am sure your results will come soon enough. I am giving it a year too to really hopefully have that big comparison photo. Have you set yourself small goals to keep the positivity high on your way to the big goal.

That's awesome mrsirish! I know what you mean about head hunger. I haven't been able to get much down though, just some Protein Drinks and Water. I go back to work tomorrow ugh! I don't feel my port in fact I don't even know where it is. I totally need to ask my md about that! Lol

Hi Spartinprincess, I don't know if from Dr to Dr it is different, but mine is under my breast area on the left side. It would be where your biggest incision is I believe.

Spartinprincess - WOW you only have two incisions. I have five. I wonder why there is such a big difference?

No idea. My dr is very famous in this field. George Fielding. He's operated on Gov. Chris Christie and Jets coach Rex Ryan. He explained that the incision between my breasts was to hold liver up out of the way and the one in my belly button to laparoscopically insert band. Surgery took 30 min (50 mi. Total with anesthesia)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
