Are you getting in lots of Protein? I've heard that helps.

How much Protein are you eating? You need at least 60gm of high quality ( animal based) protein. Your body has the decision ---- make new cells for skin, liver, heart or hair? Hair is optional! If you ate exercising regularly, then you. Ah need 80 gms. When were your last labs? Is your creatinine and albumin low? If they are the your are protein malnourished.

I am 4 1/2 months post op and my hair is considerably thinner. Thank goodness I had super-thick hair. I knew it was coming, but was still in shock. This, too, shall pass!

You might consider Protein treatments on your hair. It can be used like a conditioner and is supposed to strengthen and promote growth. Planning on doing that an often as possible post op to prevent too much loss... Would prenatal Vitamins be allowed after surgery? I know people tend to have a lot of Hair growth when they're on those.

I slacked on my Protein intake for about a month and a half and started losing hair like crazy! I got back on making Protein shakes for Breakfast every morning and the Hair loss slowed drastically. I make a chocolate Peanut Butter shake every morning with skim milk. Choc Protein powder from body fortress =30g Protein per scoop. Then I add 2 tbsp PB2 ( a phenomenal powdered peanut with 85%less fat and sugar than regular PB) =5 G protein. And the organic skim milk 1c=9g. I add a couple of cubes of ice to keep it cold cause it takes me a long time to get it all down. So I'm getting 44g of protein before 11 am every day. Now I'm losing hair at about the same rate I was before surgery. I'm so relieved. My husband and a few close friends started noticing the hair loss and I started to really freak and get depressed. Oh... Before I forget.... I also add milled/ground flax seed with my Protein Shake in the blenders in the morning, which has great Omega 3, helps promote healthy Hair growth and helps add shine back into your hair also. The flaxseed must be ground because otherwise the hard casing prevents it from being digested and the good stuff doesn't get absorbed. Side benefits since I've added flaxseed into the diet: my nails are MUCH stronger, I'm more regular with bowel activity (since surgery I have had regularity issues), and my cycles are more regular now.

I'm 7 months out and have lost 99 lbs. only 1 pound to go to hit my short term goal of 100 before 2014 arrives. More to lose after that, but right now, I'm only concentrating on that 1 pound. Good luck and hang in there!

Hope this info helps. Please consider upping your protein intake and adding flaxseed into your daily routine. I have found it to really help.

I'm only 2 and a half weeks out from surgery. And my mom is already finding my hair in the shower drain. Protein is the key but I can't get my Protein intake, can barley get my recommend amount of Fluid or my Vitamins without getting sick to my stomach. I've thought about shaving my head, going bald...

Nothing prevents hair loss - if there was, we would all be sharing the secret! It's as a result of the immediate aftermath of surgery and the trauma.

Eating well helps the re growth but there's nothing you can do about the Hair loss. Mine's been going since I was three months out and only now at 8 months am I seeing new growth. I lost about 50% of my volume but use Toppik (hair fibres) that you puff into the roots and it fills in thinness and gaps. Been a lifesaver for me...

But, for me, whose best feature was her hair, it has been a small price to pay for my weight loss. And as I got smaller, I haven't needed as much hair to balance out my body ;-)))))

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
