Amanda Nicole Hosaflook 65 Posted December 29, 2013 I am still 5 days pre op but I was wondering if after surgery I could ever have a French fry again? Can you eat fried food after surgery ever again?
Mama Spike 144 Posted December 29, 2013 I am not planning on having FF unless baked. Interested in some veterans' opinions.
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted December 29, 2013 I won't risk it. Went through too much to go back to that kind of eating. Too many people here say they have gained weight. This is why. Resolve to eat healthier!! Happy New Year!
Seela 1,187 Posted December 29, 2013 Fried food. Only time I've ever thrown up through this whole thing! Stay away... lol
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted December 29, 2013 Seela, I meant to mention that too. I have heard that so I won't risk it. I will miss my fried seafood but I love my new self instead!
MIJourney 490 Posted December 29, 2013 I've not had a French fry yet. Not to say I never will. Just haven't felt the urge yet.
magtart 603 Posted December 29, 2013 Before surgery oven baked fries were the only kind I ate, maybe once a month. shake them up in a ziploc with some olive oil and seasonings and they are delish. Even my son loves them.
onedaycloser 136 Posted December 29, 2013 I've been told from my NUT no fried foods not to mention we want to eat healthier than pre-surgery. Perhaps baked?? Not sure how much nutritional value is in fries? Good luck
sarsar 824 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) At 2.5 years out I eat fries once in a while. Potatoes fill me up fast (unless it's a potato chip) so I only eat a few of them. I forgot to add that other fried foods don't taste very good to me. I can have a bite of fried chicken or fish but it just makes me feel gross . chips, on the other hand, are a different story. They slide right through me and I can eat a lot of them. I stick to a pretty clean diet so I don't eat things like this often. account closed 20 Posted December 29, 2013 I probably would have gone for a french fry in the future (although I was never a big french-fry eater), except that my new stomach REALLY hates potatoes in any form! (thank God) 1 LindafromFlorida reacted to this
RJ'S/beginning 5,358 Posted December 29, 2013 Okay...you can eat a french fry...will you? it is up to you! Is it a good choice of course not and you know better then to even ask..I know you do.. But we are human and will try things that do not sit well with us and things that sit too well with us...You will have to decide for yourself if it is worth it or not.... I have eaten a french fry or two in my journey.....some don't agree with how I see things on this topic...but I am keeping it real and know that this is my life course that I am taking...If anyone says they don't try these. then they fib! I can't eat fried foods very well..they make me sick...I can't even eat Chinese food anymore and that was my personal favorite food in the world.. you may find that you hate fries altogether....who knows!!!!!!!!!! I had a lot of rules for myself going into this journey just like some of the former posters on here..I loved the fortitude I thought I had..take no prisoners..Life does not follow a script..And we don't either.... 1 LindafromFlorida reacted to this
nsquared 232 Posted December 29, 2013 I am 10 months out and gave up anything fried before surgery. That said, if you want a fry, I imagine you can eat one.
Madam Reverie 2,958 Posted December 29, 2013 Yeah... Fried food.. For me? My old head thinks I want it.. My stomach lurches on entry... I have one-two fries and I'm done. A bite or two of a burger - done. Forget anything else that's fried - particularly chicken/fish. Makes me feel thoroughly dirty inside and that feeling lasts, too. Don't much crave chips either. Doritos are the food of the devil <gag> I'm with RJ about eating realistically. I guess I'm fortunate that I've tried those things and they just don't fit any more. I am very grateful for that. Bring on my grilled goats cheese salad with parma ham and balsamic dressing 1 magtart reacted to this
mistysj 1,940 Posted December 30, 2013 You will be able to, physically. For me, they don't taste as good as they smell and they fill me up very fast and make me feel like crap. If I really want one I just steal one from someone else's plate and then I remember why i don't eat them. There is nothing you physically won't be able to have, unless you develop an intolerance. There are things that most successful people choose not to have during the losing phase, or to have often. This kind of thread comes up all the time. Do a search for pizza, fries, ice cream, burgers, alcohol, or whatever food you are curious about, and someone will have asked about it and got answers. One thing you should never do is advance your post-op diet faster than your surgeon's plan. That is for your physical health while healing, rather than for weight loss reasons. krysten.warren 32 Posted December 30, 2013 I don't know if this helps but I'm 14 days out and I'm on mushy foods/purée I've been doing squash fries baked in the oven. Yellow squash peel the skin and cut in med slices like fries not too thin though or they will burn. Pat dry the moister add salt and other seasons bake at 375 for about 20 mins but keep an eye on them mine have burned a few times. Come out still soft enough to chew 30 times to break it down and they're delicious! Deff have helped me get through not having French fries. And don't forget the ketchup (; but not too much cause of sugar!!! Hope that helps when you get past your liquids. Good luck!
