Measuring Food

How many of you actually measure your food. This is something I don't know how to do. Here lately I have been using a saucer as my dinner plate. And that's it. I'm just getting to where I can eat solid foods now since my fourth fill. I'm having the urge to snack, but I haven't been. I'm down from 280 to 214. I was banded on December 1, 2003. I was hoping to have lost 100lbs by my 1 year anniversary, but I don't think thats gonna happen. Hopefully I can make it under 200lbs by then. I think I would be satisfied with that. Please let me know how some of you measure your meals. or weigh them. I really need to know. Thanks guys for the support.

66 lbs. is a great accomplishment. Congratulations, You'll see Onederland soon, keep up the good work. Sounds like your doing things right.

I don't actually measure in a cup/scale. My way of measuring is visual. A piece of meat the size of a deck of cards equalls about 4 oz.

The small plate, saucer is a great way of viewing how much you eat cause it doesn't hold much.

If your counting Proteins and carbs..., Fitday.com is a great tool.

Hi Dazzey,

Wow, first of all, you're doing GREAT!!

Maybe there are people who do it, but I sure as heck don't measure or weigh my food. I want to live like a normal person and normal people don't whip out scales at the dinner table that I've noticed.

Something that has helped with my knowedge level is Fitday, because by logging in what I eat I can see what the real effect is on my caloric intake. That's as far as I go toward measuring.

I don't weigh and measure either. I can tell by looking whether I've got too big a portion or not. Protein, the size of your fist or a deck of cards - that's easy.

It's the carb monster that gets me in trouble. :D

I do not weight or measure either..I just kind of eye my portions..I know basically how much I can eat with this current fill.

Congratulations on such a fabulous weight loss! You have really done great!

I think it's a good idea at the beginning. But once you get the picture...you've, you know, got the picture.

I used a half cup measure to get an idea at first. Then I'd plop it on a plate or in a bowl to see how it looked. I also measured how much Water fit in different dishes so I'd know what would fit in them.

My favorite is to eat out of chinese tea cups. Mine can hold half a cup exactly when filled level with the top. I love using them, too! I have a lipped tea saucer that nicely holds that much, too. I use a regular salad plate for dinner.

Since I've stopped measuring I know I am eating more sometimes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
