I was justwondering this morning how you were doing. I hope you get to feeling better soon! I'm getting banded on the 6th so I can't speak from experience, but what you are describing I have heard others talk about and it sounds like it might be gas?... Many people said the gas-x strips help and so does a lot of walking around, even if it is just in the house.

I will let the experienced ones advise you your worry level.

I have confidence you will be feeling better soon!

Option 1 - extra gas x (I tend to take two of the chewables at a time as 1 didn't really do anything for me

Option 2 - lay down on your left side (if I remember correctly as that is supposed to help the angle and let gas out)

Option 3 - use a heating pad on your back. That may sound strange but it's helped me recently.

Option 4 - ask a family member to 'burp' you

Try them all. Congrats on being banded and hope you feel better soon.

Did you by chance have a hiatal hernia repaired? If so, that could be what you are experiencing. I walked around a lot and that really helped with the gas. I did not take any gas x strips or anything, I just walked. By day 4 the gas pains were minimal. Good luck to you :)

I am 3 days post surgery and feel terrible gas , bloating, headache, having a hard time finishing my protien shake, the liquid antibiotic makes me gag . I hope it gets better because at this point I dont want to eat or drink anything, just want the very uncomfortable feeling to subside.

LadyJ, I felt the EXACT same way for about a week. It was very uncomfortable. I kept thinking that somehow the band had changed the pressure in my esophagus and I was worried I would feel like that all the time. Plus, every time I would swallow my own saliva I felt like I was swallowing air and it made me more uncomfortable. I am 11 days postop and 99% of those feelings have disappeared. It did keep me from eating much. I still don't feel like I can eat much and I don't try to push it.

I had the gas pain about a week after surgery. One thing I learned....walk,walk,walk! Seriously. You'll start burping and you'll feel so much better! I had the worst gas pain in my chest and once I started walking, just around my house, I was able to burp and it went away. Even now,2 months late, when I walk around the mall I start burping. Lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
