Consensus definitions please

How do you define a stall? Specifically bouncing within X amount of pounds for more than X days.

How do you define a "slow loser?" Specifically, "no more than X pounds over the course of X days."

I'm a quantitative kind of guy and like to know my numbers.

My surgeon's team says it isn't a stall until you haven't dropped any weight over the course of two weeks.

I think "slow loser" is not a beneficial term and I don't use it or consider it worth thinking about enough to define or apply. Weight loss rate comparisons aren't helpful to anyone IMO.

I think the answer is that most of us think of ourselves as slow losers, whether that is actually the case or not.

:D

For me, I think I'm kind of average. Faster than some, slower than others. At 9 weeks I have had two different periods where I've been bouncing up and down around a 2-3 pound range for a week or more. Then I will suddenly go down an additional 2-3 pounds.

If you look at my chart from about Dec 1 until now, I have lost just about 10 pounds. But those 10 pounds were basically in the first week and the last week. Averaged out, I am completely fine with the rate of loss. In the middle two weeks I didn't see how it was going to work.

In the end, what someone else's rate of loss is has to be meaningless to me. Unless I know for sure that person has the same stats as I do, exercises the same amount and eats the same diet…oh, and has the same underlying health stuff…how can I say it's apples to apples?

I keep feeling like I am a slow loser , especially when I compare myself to others on this board . 2 things have helped me battle this mental hurdle; the first is Gamergirls " you might be more successful than you think " post about percentage of excess weight lost. I confess to be disappointed that I have "only" lost 45 lbs in 3 months , but then the reality is , I have lost 54% of my excess body weight in 3 months. That is a much kinder fact!

The second barometer I use is an app called Get-2-goal. It is designed for WLS patients to track and graph progress over time. It plots out if you are "Above Average, Average, or Keep Working" .

Personally , I fall on the average line consistently. Try it , let me know how do.

I agree with Fluff and Bufflehead...comparing your weight loss to someone else is setting yourself up for failure (and not just in weight loss - that's true in just about everything in life).

For the stall question - I understand it to be two weeks with no loss defines a stall.

I was sleeved on 11/14 and hit a stall from 12/13 - 12/26. I lost no weight. It sucked, I'll be honest. It played with my head, even though I knew it was going to happen. I thought I was prepared for it - I wasn't. I didn't got off plan, however. I got back to basics - 3 meals and 3 Protein supplements as my doctor's order state. I upped my Water intake and I exercised. Those are the things I COULD control.
