Well I'm happy that you have decided to have lapband surgery. It has made my life a lot better! Surgery in itself has changed a lot since 1979! I think your "friend" is just bitter because wls didn't work, and that doesn't mean it can't work for you!

You honestly need to make this decision. There will be people that have crappy things to say, but in the end you are making a decision to change the quality of your life.

Just my 2 cents- a lot of people that are obese it's because of addiction. (I understand that some obese people have medical conditions that can make you overweight) I have an addiction to food and I am an emotional eater. Having any weight loss surgery can help control the eating and the amounts, but the struggle in your head is a different story. I think that some people have this struggle more than others. Anytime there is a big stress in my life - I have to worry about my food intake. People can fail from wls because of addiction - it's just like someone who struggles with alcohol or pills.

•• I'm not saying that it's not possible to overcome it, I'm just saying that the "head hunger" and the actual emotional eating can affect others differently.

I was nervous last night and called a friend about my upcoming surgery on the 7th. She put me down , made me feel horrible, and tried to talk me out of the surgery. I'm getting the lap band. She herself has gotten a gastric bypass in '79 and she ate though it. She keeps telling me that its not worth my time because I'm just going to fail. I should have hung up but for some reason I listened to her for an hour and a half. I feel I can make this band work for me and I'm going to loose weight and get better, healthy. Get my life back!

Please don't let the negativity discourage you believe I know the hurtful words all to well if I would have listen to the ones I thought would be my biggest supporters in this I would have never started this journey now 13months out 105lbs down I certainly feel and look like a new women it was the best thing I ever did for my self. Good luck you can do it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
