I'm 3 months from having surgery, so I'm spending my spare time reading everything I can possibly find about VSG. Lately I've seen a lot of people struggling with awful nausea. Is this normal? How long does it last? Thanks!

Nausea.. Ask for a patch right before surgery. It should last for about 3 days. Also changing eating plans ( phases) can cause nausea when u try new foods that your body is not ready for.

I had nausea the day of and day after surgery. The nurses had me sniff alcohol swabs and it went away! Amazing! I've had none since the day after surgery.

I am five days out from surgery and felt nauseous for about an hour after recovery. I think it was probably due to anesthesia. No problem since

Day 1 and 2 were pretty bad. I'll be honest. I smacked a nurses hand when she waved a alcohol pad in front of me! Get out of my way I'm gonna puke!

The Zonfran wasn't working at all, so it turned out to be that I'm REALLY sensitive to dilaudid, so when we changed the pain med the nausea went away and never came back.

The only time I had any nausea was when I first came out of surgery, still groggy and oblivious to my surroundings but I somehow knew there was a nurse there and in my confusion said "nauseous, please fix it" and she (or he, I don't remember) shot me up with something and it never happened again.

Like others, I had the patch and never experienced any nausea. I believe most people don't, especially if they have a patch to help prevent any issues with it.

I am the odd one out here. I am almost six weeks post op and still nedd the zofran daily. Usually when I wake up is the worst. I also still need the medicine for stomach spasms sometimes the levsin or bentyl they both work well. Guess my stomach is really sensitive compared to others.

None to speak of. I had the patch for surgery and they also put something in my IV. I had a couple of bouts post-op when I drank my Protein drink too fast.

I take my Prilosec 2x daily and I think that really helps.

I had one instance and I rang my call button, got a shot and it went away. I am 9 weeks out and have not gotten sick once since having surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
