mistysj 1,940 Posted December 29, 2013 I have been able to chug since maybe 5 months out? Look up "water loading" -- it is actually a bariatric technique for dealing with hunger.
sbailey1 25 Posted December 29, 2013 What is the reason you can't guzzle liquid after surgery? I'm just wondering. I have my consultation coming up on jan 15th. I'm learning so much from all of you!

Branmuffin 190 Posted December 29, 2013 It's comforting to hear from those further out that can now drink to their satisfaction and guzzle if they want to. I'm 7 weeks tomorrow and its getting tons better already.

Indigo1991 1,612 Posted December 30, 2013 What is the reason you can't guzzle liquid after surgery? I'm just wondering. I have my consultation coming up on jan 15th. I'm learning so much from all of you! Your stomach is swollen for a few weeks, then it's pretty tight so swallowing big gulps just isn't possible without discomfort or overfilling it too quickly. I am 8 months out and am back to being able to drink pretty much as before - but I don't cos I am now in the habit of taking mouthfuls then letting it go down. But it's nice to have a big drink now and then :-)
Marykatherine 38 Posted December 31, 2013 It may be that the urge to guzzle is a sign of being thirsty. I loved to guzzle Water, especially after exercise or work in the sun. Now I just have to drink down 4mini- gulps wait 'till the tightness stops in my stomach and then mini- guzzle, wait....until I get enough water. Now I do my best to be 'up to date ' on the drinking thing. ; )
Dr-Patient 830 Posted January 1, 2014 I joined this site just now so I can add my voice to this topic. I was sleeved on Dec. 4, 2013 and I am dying for a good guzzle of Water. I LOVE Water and milk, and to not be able to drink it as I used to...! That is my one frustration. 22 pounds down; tomorrow makes 4 weeks. I guess that's good. But yes...sipping water is not the same as Chug-a-lugging lots of water. You/We shouldn't drink lots of anything not only because of the discomfort, but you don't want to stretch your remaining stomach pouch. But I know I'm dehydrated some because I'm not sipping all day. I want to drink! Oh well...I'll have to adjust.
