I wanna guzzle down a bottle of water!

Recommended Posts

I'm 15 weeks out and even now, I can't 'chug' properly. I can take a massive mouthful and swallow it in 4 parts... Its not how it used to be though. It takes a bit of time and weirdly, I can drink tea better than I can Water...

Trial and error, sadly :(

Yes! And I can't. I can get a good swig, but I cannot guzzle. Sometimes, I am just so thirsty. And I get full on liquids, feel bloated, but still thirsty. I'm hoping this passes with time.

Oooh, this is one of my big fears. I LOVE Water. It's all I drink, literally. After working in the yard outside in the heat I crave a giant glass of Water, just guzzling it down. Before bed, first thing in the morning, with every meal...a giant glass of cold water.

It is one of those things that have kept me from scheduling surgery. I am so afraid that I will always hate the inability to guzzle water down.

I did post that very question to the vets one time. Most of the answers I got back were "No" to gigantic gulps and guzzles, but "Yes" to drinking an entire glass of water at one time just in smaller swallows.

Thank you! I have been slowly working through one little fear at a time. I recognize the fact that giving up the ability to gulp a giant glass of Water is a small adjustment to make in the interest of the bigger health picture. It'll be fine.

Good luck to you!

I know the urge. I know it's not what you want to hear, but the more you drink all day long the less thirsty and less of a desire it will be.

So basically you're not getting the surgery because you have to slow down just a little bit when you drink water?

I cannot drink at all like i used too and sometimes i feel so thirsty. it is definitly a problem for me. Small sips are not quenching my thirst at all. I can take bigger drinks now at almost 6 weeks out ao I am hoping it better with more time.

The first week after surgery I felt like I needed to drink (guzzle) a gallon of water... I've always been a heavy Water drinker and miss it!!! Now I'm 16 days post and I can drink normal mouthfuls at a time, last week I could only sip and that felt like it was gtg stuck !!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
