unflavored protein powder

Recommended Posts

What is a good brand of unflavored Protein Powder and where can I find it? I'm only a week out and struggling to get my Protein in. I need different variety because the ones I had before surgery are really wearing thin.

I use the Syntrax Unflavored, I buy mine from Amazon:

I like it just fine, no problems with it. I know a lot of people also use Unjury. I haven't tried the Unjury unflavored but I like their other flavors.

The numbers in terms of Protein grams vs. calories are very similar.

Keep in mind that "unflavored" doesn't mean "no flavor" - it just means it hasn't had other flavors added in to it. Soy protein has its own natural flavor.

I've got both Syntrax Nectar and Unjury unflavored and they're both fine. The Unjury smells and tastes a little less "whey-y" but I usual mix mine with Soups that have a strong enough taste to mask the whey. Both mix well with a Blender Bottle as long as your liquid is under 140 degrees. Syntrax from Amazon and Unjury from their own website.

My favorite is unflavored egg white by Jay Robb (Amazon). I mix it 50/50 with a flavored whey Protein (also Jay Robb) to cut out the sweet.

Did a bunch of research on my own about this the other day. Unjury would have been my 1st option but ordering it and waiting for it to get to myho use isnt an option for me really and the local health care store sells it at a rediculous price. After looking into it and comparing I went to GNC and got some of their GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein-Naturally Flavored. GNC is 5 minutes from my house and the price wasnt too bad at $26 for 24g of Protein, 2g fat, and 3 carbs per scoop. As stated in a previous post, these will have some flavor to them. They aren ot truly unflavored so watch your expectations. Hope all goes well for you :)

What does the natural taste resemble?

To me it almost seems to have a slight "malted" flavor? Almost like the inside of Whoppers candy but without the sweetness.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
