Have you ever experience pain on left side under rib cage?

Recommended Posts

I am 10 days post op and I am a stomach/side sleeper. All night I was tossing and turning because of a pain I was experiencing on my left side under my rib cage. It hurts more when I take a deep breath and I'm just wondering how common this might be and does it eventually go away? I've read elsewhere that it might be scar tissue forming. The pain is directly above one of my incisions.

I was already at the hospital yesterday for a CT scan and nothing was found. This was because I had shoulder pain. This pain right under my rib cage is something new.

It's probably the tethering stitch and gas. Perfectly normal. Will disappear at the three week mark -ish - if not sooner.

That tethering stitch is rough! I can't wait for that to go away!

I had that for just under 4 weeks. It's from where they separate the muscles to get the stomach out and have to stitch them together very deeply. It's like a bad runners cramp. It will go away hang in there!

I'm confused now. I was told that my stomach was taken out on the right side, since that is where I was experiencing a lot of pain early on. Now that pain is starting to resolve and the pain on my left side is really bad. So if they took my stomach out on the left side then why was my right side in so much pain early on?

I'm confused too and having trouble finding information on the tethering stitch. I feel pretty bloated on the left side of my stomach, too. But my stomach was taken out through my belly button.

Anyone have more information?

I have a pain that is sometimes on the left under the ribs, and then somtimes under the right, my regular doc said she thought it was just an adhesion. I only feel it when I am sitting on the couch... slouching. If I stretch it out, the pain goes away. I am at 3 years....

I know this is an old post, but I’m having the same issue. Did you ever figure out where the pain was coming from and how long did it take to go away?

If you are immediately post-surgery perhaps gas under your diaphragm and you feel it,there. If you are father out nerves that got bumped during surgery. Oh yes there are some REALLY BAD THINGS that could be felt there but the law of averages is in YOUR favor.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
