Hi Misty!

I'm a newbie as well! I started my journey in November of this year by signing up for a weight loss surgery seminar. I was just given approval by my insurance company for the surgery a few days ago. The process goes much faster than you think it would! I have the rest of my appointments scheduled in January so if all goes as planned, I am hoping to have my surgery in late February. I'm by no means an expert in everything lapband related, but I've experienced what you're going through so feel free to ask me anything! I'd love to help you out and be buddies :)

Hi I am new to the board. I just made the call today to the surgeon and started my journey. I go the 13th of jan for my initial visit. Then 9long months of classes, psych appt, and all the craziness gets real for me. I am a married mom of 6 kids. And I know this is not going to be easy. Is there anyone else just starting the journey? Or am I the lone one? I am really looking for a buddy to go thru this with! Thanks in advance! Misty Raine

I'm a newbie too! I've had the surgeon consult, dietitian visit, and psych eval. All paperwork was submitted to insurance on 12/19/13 so I'm waiting for response to see if it will be covered. I started a low calorie diet 1 week ago and I've lost 7 lbs!

The founder of this site published a book that I highly recommend. It's called The Big Book on the Lapband. Has lots of info on all stages of the process. Good luck to you. I'm happy to be 1 of your buddies as so far I've been mostly reading posts. It will be nice to share our journeys.

I am in "The Big Book on the Lapband".

Congrats to all who are just starting the process! I was banded 9/11/13. BEST decision I've ever made. I started at 354lbs and currently at 276lbs. The best piece of advice I can give you is this: Listen to your medical team (surgeon, nutritionist). Your surgeon and nutritionist have a plan that they believe works the best. Don't get discouraged or think you are doing something wrong when you read that others have a different plan than you. If you are following your plan, you are doing it right. My plan has been very different from others on this board, and sometimes I have a pity party when I read how different it is. But then I look at the 78lbs I've lost, the blood pressure meds I no longer take, and the upswing in my physical activity and I realize I'm on this plan because it works.

I'm glad I found this group of people to travel with on my journey. I've learned so much. I've found the encouragement that I've needed on those pity party days.

So, welcome aboard my train to better health. I hope you enjoy your journey as well.

The surgeon office recommended barriatric advantage I have been using those kinda expensive but I bought so much b4 surgery in July. I also like the Isopure ready to drink 160 for 40 g if Protein I wait for Vitamin shop coupon n buy on line plus free shipping. I need to be careful bc I'm lactose intolerant n well let's say most shakes have lactose and it's not pretty fir me. But getting banded us worth any lactose issues

Hi, 2nd timer here, 8/08 first band 2/13 removed 1/14/14 new band. Kind of nervous about 2nd failure. I wouldn't have changed anything, my band failure was my fault.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
