Protein Absorbtion?

Recommended Posts

My NUT says that all Protein Shakes are not absorbed by the body the same way. She gave us 4 brands that are 'rated' at 100% absorption and examples of several that are 20%. She explained that at 20% absorption if the listed Protein is 30g the body is really only using 6g and that I should only count that intake as 6. Has anyone else's NUT said this? Wondering because I need to find alternate shakes. I am not handling the ones I have well (gagging, etc).

My nutritionist never said that, had samples of Premier Protein in her office and gave me some. Which brands does your nutritionist recommend?

Some Proteins are better than others. whey Protein is better absorbed. Which shake I get it from is up to personal taste. Also I was told protein was only absorbed at 30 grams per serving, so anything over that at a meal was wasted.

Which shakes did she recommend and how many gramser day?

I think you need to use whey isolate Protein. There are many varieties and There are many producers of it on the market. It does make sense to me that there would be a rating of Protein powders. From listening to others on this forum, I use the unjury and Syntrax nectar Proteins. Unjury was also recommended by my program. Unjury seems a bit more expensive. They do advertise that it is medical quality and has no ingredients from China.( a big problem with some supplements). I enjoy the taste, all flavors, and have had no issues since surgery, so I will continue to use it.

I like the Syntrax Nectars Fuzzy Navel. It tastes great and mixes well with Water, so it is the consistency of juice

My nut told me that the important element is that it be isolate Protein. In the beginning I could only tolerate soy isolate protein, and she was fine with the soy, as long as it was soy isolate.

I agree with what's being said here. I think what nutritionist was trying to explain is that whey isolate Protein is the most easily absorbed. I can remember Dr Oz explaining this once long ago, too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
