So I am 9 days out and my brain keeps telling me that I am hungry. All I want to do is eat, I have been doing mostly liquids but I did eat some mashed potatoes and a couple pieces of pickle roll, liquids are not filling me up and I know I am not supposed to eat solids but I am HUNGRY! What do you guys suggest and how did you controll yourself and keep satisfied? I go in on jan 9th for my first follow up with my doctor post-op.

Congratulations on getting the band and starting your new journey. You must!! stick to the post op diet your doctor gave you. Your stomach has to heal properly. Maybe you weren't ready for the surgery. Sip on Protein shakes, make them thick with ice cubes. That is what i did and still have every morning for Breakfast. When I get a fill I am put on a strict diet for 6 days and would never think of not following the rules.

I had my surgery 18 months ago and only had what was on my list. Maybe call your doctor's office and ask for help.

Good luck and Happy Holidays.

I liked potato leek Soup -- there's a brand in our local grocery store that comes in a carton -- it's called Imagine. I found that satisfying. Wanted savory things. Also I was able to have egg drop soup. I made miso soup as well -- all these I wanted but then after a little bit I was full. Also I had Popsicles, yum. Thinned out yogurt. Applesauce. Follow your diet and know it may take some fills for you to get to that place of satiety, a dimmed appetite. Then it will all be so much easier. Meanwhile, however, it feels like a diet. Hang in there!

I was banded 11/28/11 so I understand how difficult this is over the holidays. You're evolving into "Bandster Hell" and it won't go away till you get a few fills that help your band work it's magic. Till then it's just a diet.

I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. I kept the 12 lbs off by focusing on eating healthy foods as much as possible but the fact that some of us in BH can/could eat most anything without the band sticking her nose in my business makes this phase a very frustrating and difficult time.

I ate a lot of Soups. Egg drop Soup is very rich and filling with lots of Protein. I lived on that stuff for weeks. Still love it.

To be honest, I'm having a tough time sticking with the two week liquid rule from my doctor (I'm almost two weeks post op). This coming Monday I get to progress to two weeks of puréed foods.
Well last night we wanted a date night. We ended up settling on this UK pub place. I was planning on being good when we were headed there but their 2 Soups of the day sounded terrible. So I decided to have a few bites of my finances fish and chips (stayed away from breading). Bad bad idea. I chewed it really well, but I felt so sick afterwards. I didn't vomit or anything but I was miserable. Needless to say I'm back to doctors orders. Yeah I've started being a bit more hungry but I'd rather have a hunger feeling than a nauseated feeling.
The doctors know what they are doing. Don't second guess their orders because you see people on here that can eat stuff earlier (that might be more for me than for you). ;)

Congrats on getting banded and I wish you the best of luck!

i had a fill on the 26th. i am 7cc on a 14cc band. i was on liquids for 24hours and now am on full liquids. i made a Soup yesterday using chicken, onions, carrots, and celery. i drank the broth from that while on liquids and than using my pulverizer just blended all of it together making a thick soup. both were very good. use your imagination when it comes to food. if you are on liquids make your own broth using things you love. use your spices. don't forget Jello, and drink a lot. fruity crystal light especially lemonaide was a life saver, it will help fill you up. this is a phase in which you learn from. stick in there. you will graduate up and be so happy with refried Beans or eggs, cottage cheese, chili. it is a discipline to only eat what your doctor orders for you. but, throughout banded life you will need to be discipline with types of foods and amounts. good luck and best wishes

I have the I have the same problem, i get really hungry then I eat all of the Protein Shake or something and im full for a little while then my roommate has waffles or mashed potatoes or something like that and I take a couple bites and then I get pain realy bad and my upper left shoulder starts hurting me and i have a hard time breathing, but its really hard and I didn't realize how hard it would be on a liquid diet. I cant wait until my fill so maybe it will be easier, im still not even eating a 4th of what i normally would.

If you are carb-sensitive, that can really fuel your hunger. When I was newly banded, I really tried to almost eliminate my carb intake; now that I am 2 years out, I can eat carbs with no problem. Keep the faith!

Maybe I am wierd but I was able to eat semi solid foods after a week. My doctor told me as long as I could handle it it was alright. I know I am still not in my green zone though because even though I do eat smaller portions(about 1/3 of what I used to eat) I feel hungry again after a few hours. So in 3 weeks I am going to ask for a slight fill. My surgery was on the 20th, and I can eat most semi solid foods with no problem, and no sick feeling. I felt like I was doing something wrong but my surgeon said I was doing just fine. I have lost 5lbs this week mostly on Portion Control, and eating foods without sugars alone. I am hoping my next fill ( I only have 2cc's in my band now) of another 2-3cc's will put me in my green zone.

I just got banded on 12/17. I went against my surgeons orders and ate five days after. I was hungry! I learned my lesson! It hurt so bad! I didn't go back to liquids, but I have learned what agrees with me and what doesn't. Also to CHEW! I cannot do bread at all. I have had some Portion Control issues occasionally. I still feel hungry not long after I eat. I'm learning, not like I was told but my way. I have my first appointment with my surgeon on the third for my first fill. So I will go through all of this with him. I also start my bariatric support group and visit with my dietitian at the end of the month so I am hoping that I will get on a better track.

I have my first appointment for a fill on the 9th, I cant wait! I definately cant do bread as well. Milk is my best friend, as well as creamy mashed couliflower w/cheese, I am making a broccily cheese Soup in my crock pot that I hope turns out good! my biggest thing is just changing my habbits of wanting to snack while watching tv or when I go out, i dont need to eat when everyone else is. And my coworkers and peers are the worst.... "cant you just have one bite?" or "Taste this?"

Its new years eve tonight and everyone will be drinking and I am afraid to try alcohol....

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
