Anyone from Georgia ??

I went to the seminar in Athens with Dr. Mejias this week. I really liked him and felt comfortable. I went to my PCP to get my referral and she is not terribly up on bariatric surgery since after some discussion she said gastric bypass and I told her no, that I was wanting to be banded. in the end she requested that I let her and to do her homework to make sure that she referred me to someone she felt was good. She was going to consult with some gastro docs that she works with alot and get their opinions.

As alternative to Mejias, she mentioned a Dr. Proctor in Gainesville and someone else at Northside that she had heard of. In essence, she wanted someone who has done a lot of the procedures and has a good reputation.

I really liked Mejias and appreciated the fact that he only does banding and uses the realize band. I checked Proctor and he seemed to be more focused on gastric bypass which I DO NOT WANT! Should I tell my PCP that if she wants me to go to someone else?

Absolutely! It matters so much. In bypass practices, they don't spend as much time with after care as lap band practices. You want someone who understands what you are doing and not trying you to talk you into doing something that you don't want to do. Good Luck!

I am in Georgia,

I am going to Dr Steinberg in Decatur. He is wonderful, and isn't pushy on one procedure or other. I knew what I wanted and he agree with me. I would def go with a doctor who is going to allow you to be agreed with what you want done. Listen to the reasons as to why one verses the other.

Hope that helped

Keri - I also am with Dr. Steinberg and had surgery last Thursday. The DeKalb hospital staff was great and I've only been a little sore since the surgery. I can't speak to other Atlanta surgeons but Dr. Steinberg and his staff have been great!!

Yes you should tell your doctor how you feel. Also do your own research that way when she has suggestions you can give her yours. I would go with a doctor that has alot of experience with the band. I am a google junkiw so I researched everything and every doctor I was considering. When it comes down to it you will have to live with the band for the rest of your life so you want to make sure the doctor knows what they are doing.

I live in Stone Mountain, and I am going to a seminar hosted through his office for lapband surgery on October 30th. I can't wait to attend, as I'm having problems with coverage through my Health Plan. It also sucks that I work for this particular Health Plan. Hopefully, from the seminar I can get some recommendations as far as coverage or financing.< /p>

Welcome, tryin2lose. I live in Lilburn and I, too, used Dr. Steinberg. I just love him and his staff. They are super friendly and very responsive to any needs. Good Luck on your journey.

Vala - where are you located? If Decatur isn't too far, I would suggest going to one of Dr. Steinberg's seminars. He does Realize bands as well as gastric bypasses. Like another poster stated, he doesn't push toward either surgery. Their staff is very organized and knows what has to be completed to try to get insurance approval.

I'm certainly not speaking against any other surgeons. I've just had a great experience with Dr. Steinberg, his staff, and the surgery center.

Good luck!

I live in Atlanta...Has anyone here gone to Atlanta Bariatrics to see Dr. Johnson? Does anyone know if Dr. Hart is any better than Dr. Johnson? They are both in the same office.

ya I am from Decatur Ga and just moved here from Florida. I need a fill center. Do you know of any Dr;s that will help me with my fills?

thanks Nancy

If you had your surgery in America, Dr. Steinberg will do fills, I believe. He's at the DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur. 404-501-7903

Hi there! I too live in Atlanta, and was banded today. Everything went smoothe. I have a little tenderness, and the infamous gas that eveyone is talking about. I went through True Results, and Dr. Hart was my surgeon. To me he is very knowledgeable, and helpful answering questions and concerns. I can't say that Dr. Hart is neccesarily better than Dr. Johnson, but I do think that Dr. Johnson must be a good surgeon if Dr. Hart works with him. The best thing that you can do is research both of their professional history and experience to see who you feel most comfortable with.

Good Luck :smile2:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
