GotItDoneInHarlem 302 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm 9 days out, recovering very very well after a ROUGH start. I'm dying to go to the gym and get on an elliptical. Does anyone know if an elliptical is safe? The treadmill is so boring. 1 dreamscometrue reacted to this
dreamscometrue 262 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm 9 days out, recovering very very well after a ROUGH start. I'm dying to go to the gym and get on an elliptical. Does anyone know if an elliptical is safe? The treadmill is so boring. I asked my surgeon on day 2 when he came into my room when it would be okay to start jogging again and his words exactly, "as long as you feel up to it, you can start running next week. Hell, you can go play football the week after that if you want!" Haha, I told him that football wouldn't be happening, but it was good to know I could start jogging again. I'm no expert, but if he cleared me to run, he would have cleared me to use an elliptical-much less impact on the body! Good luck!
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted December 26, 2013 dying to go to the gym HarlemLoser you should check with your doc!!!! 9 days po seems pretty early - but if you feel good, and doc gives his blessings, go for it imo - you have to learn how to walk before you can run in other words, take it easy at first - build up to the eliptical so glad you are feeling so well kathy congrats
gmanbat 5,889 Posted December 26, 2013 Take it easy on your abdomen muscles is my advice. I didn't do full push ups until a year out because they taxed my abdomen too much. Commit to lifelong fitness and work up to optimal shape.
medicyn 32 Posted December 26, 2013 I am at my dr now and just asked that question about the elliptical. He said after a week is fine if no complications. However, check with your doctor. 1 dreamscometrue reacted to this
mona832 20 Posted December 26, 2013 How awesome that you are ready to exercise! And the elliptical no less! I imagine that I would want to build up to that intensity after my surgery because although you might feel good on the outside...you just had a major change on the inside and your stomach needs time to heal. But I guess if your doctor says it's okay, then it's okay! Good Luck to you!!!
Stacy_wls 135 Posted December 26, 2013 My surgeon said cardio is fine - just to use pain as your guide. I did some running at 10 days out. I am cleared to play ice hockey at 4 weeks out. No lifting until 6 weeks, but can do body weight exercises like squats, yoga etc. right now.
Fluffnomore 1,235 Posted December 26, 2013 My doctor's guideline was: walk every day, cardio and light stuff at 4 weeks, everything else at 6. Like everything else, it varies. I'm three weeks back into it and it feels great.
