Hi my name is.. Truly I realized yesterday I have a problem. Sugar is my drug of choice. I was pretty much off it since I was sleeved in early October. Yesterday- those Lindt chocolates did me in. It was that whole sensation of never getting enough- back! Anyone else have the same problem with certain types of food? Do you abstain completely? Is there such a thing as moderation? I am back on plan today... But quite frankly food choices scare me. Thanks in advance for your fabulous advice!

I think sugar is my problem too. Christmas Cookies have been my latest addiction. I would suggest to you what I am starting today. I'm going back to the basics. I'm going back to my pre op diet to detox from carbs. I don't plan to do the liquids unless I still feel the cravings for sugar and carbs after 1 week. If I do, I'll do the second phase of my pre op diet of low carb liquids.

Yeah I am a bonafide sugar addict. The sleeve did not change that one bit. I cannot do moderation, especially because nowadays I am trying hard to cope with a lot of stress in my life. Truth: I have been eating things the last 2 weeks I shouldn't have eaten. Only lost like 1.5 lbs in the last 2 weeks because of it. I notice I only do this at work, where much of my stress and anguish originates. When I'm in the grocery store, I don't buy sweets and when I'm home I don't snack. My problem is my office and the availability of candy and sweets. Since I can't up and quit my job I have to do all I can to resist the temptation of momentary sweet salvation. So I am doing my best to abstain completely. Because once I have one bite, it never ends up being just one bite. Not everyone needs to do that, but for me for now, it's the best choice. We all indulge sometimes, no one is perfect, but we have to get back on the horse, so to speak, take responsibility, and move forward. Make tomorrow better.

Work is where I have the hardest time too. I'm 9 months post op and I realize my weight loss is expected to slow but I've only lost about 2 pounds in the last 2 months or so. I have about 15 pounds to go. The sugar/carb cravings is what is holding me back from reaching my goal. But I've recognized my issue and have started my pre-op diet today to detox. It worked before surgery so I'm hopeful I can get those cravings back in check and get the scale moving down again.

I am getting ready to have surgery on Jan. 6th but I am definitely a sugar addict. I shouldn't be cause I am type 1 diabetic but that is what gives me comfort. I am so scared that is what I will not be able to control after surgery. I so called started my pre op diet on Monday but I would say it is not going so well. I am still having a cup of coffee in the morning with splenda/sugar mixture and everything else I have been doing ok with. I think I am still consuming too much for my pre op diet.

Oh wow acampbell1318, I'm a type 1 too. I have found that I had no cravings for sugar and junk until around 6 months post op. For me it's much easier to consume than Protein. I feel much better when I stick to the plan and have high protein low carb. I did this surgery to get better control of my diabetes. My a1c was 8.8 pre op and last test was 7.7. I'm trying to get below 7. I'm heading in the right direction but it's taking me a lot longer than I expected because of my carb struggles. There is another type 1 that I know of on these boards who has had great success. I will too, just got to make the right choices.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
