Symptoms of something?

Recommended Posts

I am 20 days post-op of having a band to sleeve revision. Last night the weirdest thing happened, it worried my EMT husband, and now that its over I'm a little concerned about it.

This could be unrelated, but it started after I laid down and my left sholder gave me a horrible sharp pain, it went away when I wasn't laying on it, but then I started uncontrollably shivering (teeth chattering and everything). My husband had me get up to make sure there wasn't a sholder injury, cause he first thought I was showing symptoms of shock, no injury. Then I laid back down in bed and started crying hard, and I couldn't help it. I wasn't in pain at that time,no reason for the crying.

My husband started asking me about my food intake for the day and with it being Christmas I didn't keep count of my Protein so he had me go drink a glass of chocolate milk. By the time it took me to drink it, my body had calmed down and the shivering was minimal and the crying over.

I went stright to bed and went straight to sleep (again, unusally)

Anyone out there experiance something like this?

Could be something to do with your vagus nerve. It is a huge nerve that runs along the spine. It controls a lot of things and is near the stomach. It can get irritated. It is why some people get hiccups or sneeze when they get too full post-op and it is why men throw up after being kicked in the testicles. It is also the thing that is actually sore when you get the gas pain in your shoulder. Your vagus nerve can refer pain there.

Also you can get quite cold when losing weight rapidly, and the holidays are stressful and emotional. Keep an eye on how you are feeling and contact your surgeon if you feel strange. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I used to get hiccups all the time when I got to full before I was sleeved! I never knew why. How interesting, thanks for that info.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
