Sever Nausea after Sleeve... Suggestions needed

Recommended Posts

Hi sleevers,

I am 8 days post op and am battling some major nausea. I can not get anything in me but Water as of right now. My blood sugar is pretty low (56-81) due to it and all that I can seem to stomach is a little apple cider when too low. I am on the nausea patch and am taking zofran every 8 hours with out much relief. The patch is making me dizzy and have blurred vision.

I have noticed that if I do not drink for a couple hours my nausea gets much better but because I am fearful of dehydration, I am drinking 30ml of water every 10 minutes.

I tried to take my gallstone and ulcer prevention meds today with a little pudding but threw up as soon as my tongue touched the spoon and I can not even think about Protein Powder with out gaging.

Has anyone else experienced this before? If so, any suggestions? I am at my breaking point and am fearful that I may end up back in the hospital.

Common issue, dear. Keep in touch with your doctor. It may be the patch is not a good med for you, so you might discuss an alternative with him. The nausea eventually goes away, but it is hard right now. I feel for you. Stick with it and that this too shall pass. The first month is so sucky. Good for you getting fluids in, that is the most important thing right now. You'll get your Protein in soon. Few people get much protein in a week out.

I am 9 days out. For the first five days post surgery I couldn't keep anything down. Turns out the crushed antacid didn't work for me. I needed a liquid. Once I took a liquid (ryopan) problem solved. I swear the heavens opened. Good luck, I feel for you.

My surgeon suggested putting a lemon wedge in my Water bottle. It's supposed to make it easier on your stomach, it seems to be helping me. Straight Water can make water worse. Good luck. I was where you were, now I'm 7 weeks out and it's not nearly so bad, it's actually bearable now. None of the nausea medicines helped me so I didn't take them. :)

Try peppermint oil...or suck on a sugar free peppermint Sunday for a few seconds. That helped me.

I was on the anti nausea pill starting 24 hours before surgery. It made me so nauseous I needed a wheel chair to get into the hospital and up to the surgery prep area.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
