Being Banded on Friday

Recommended Posts

I'm being banded on Friday, 12/27 and I start my clear liquid diet at midnight tonight. I have got my Jello, broth and popsicles ready. Has anyone been told during their clear liquid diet that they can't have flavored jello? I bought raspberry, strawberry banana and peach. Hoping I can eat it. Happy Holidays!

I'm waiting on insurance approval but have tentative surgery date of 1/20/14. I'm a registered nurse and a planner so I've researched the diet requirements a lot. Although I've found that each surgeon recommends similar diets, they all vary a bit. But I'm comfortable to say that my surgeon says yes to flavored Jello as long as it is sugar free. Hope this helps! So excited for your journey and hoping for approval from my insurance soon!

Thanks! I did buy the sugar free so I'm going to eat it. Good luck with your insurance approval.

I know for me flavored jellos were fine, as long as they were sugar free. Don't hesitate to call your surgeon's office, if you have any questions about your diet, though!

Good luck to you!

Hi KSteele!

I'm being banded tomorrow also! Friday 12/27

I had to start my liquid diet 2 weeks ago though. Lucky you. The good news is I've lost 15 pounds. I'm really nervous about tomorrow, are you?

Well, I'm off to bed. See you on the other side!

Thank you for asking Slinkielovin. Friday was pretty rough. The nurse told my husband that the anesthesiologist got a little heavy handed. She had several of us coming out of surgery feeling nauseous and having trouble getting awake. I felt rough Friday but a little better yesterday and better yet today. I am surprisingly hungry! Muscles are sore and my insides feel like they've been rearranged but that is getting better. My stomach is growling and rumbling and I get the occasional hiccup which is unpleasant, but over all, I'm on the mend!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
