Weight Watchers

Recommended Posts

OK, so I have said from the very beginning that I would not diet, count points, etc., ever again. However, I felt like I really needed to get a grip on exactly what I am eating. Lately, I have reverted back to some old habits of eating junk, mainly cheese balls and Peanut Butter tracks ice cream. I have had a lot going on that has been causing me stress and looked to my old source of comfort, food. While I am still losing, I am eating crap and decided I needed to do something for a while to get myself back on the healthier track. I have had a lot of success in the past with weight watchers, so decided I would do it again for a few months, not forever, just for a while.

I used to get 34 points a day and hated it because I always felt that wasn't enough and was always hungry. Now, I am at 28 points a day and am actually finding it a challenge to eat that many, let alone eat my flex points and activity points!

Is anyone else doing weight watchers? Do you post on their boards? There sure is a lot of negativity there toward people who opt to have weight loss surgery.

I haven't posted on their boards, no, but I've actually had a lot of success with them...until I gained it all back...every single time. It's a good program, IMO, but it doesn't work for everyone.

Oh, and about their lap band negativity, I think they're just scared of something actually working. It's a pride issue. Well, maybe that's a little harsh, but you get my point. If you think you can eat with that large of a deficit of calories for that long and lose all of your weight without surgery, go ahead. As for me, I'll stick to my band. :welldoneclap:

Weight watchers and the like are naturally afraid of wls because they know that one day they will be obsolete. Come on a temporary diet or a lifetime of change, they are scared of loosing their pocketbooks and should be. That said it is a good program, problem is most people can't sustain eating so few calories when they have to deal with hunger. As for wanting to get a handle on what you are eating that is great! If weight watchers helps you do that then use it, I know I have considered pulling out my old ww stuff. If you can't eat that many points worth in a day lower the number of points. WLS patient serving sizes are much smaller than normal recommended serving sizes. Remember you are medically supervised, just make sure to get your protien in.

I am not doing weight watchers but I have been thinking about it...just to give myself a bit of structure in my eating habits...but I know what you mean about the negativity towards WLS. but when you think of it of course they are...if everyone went the WLS route...there would be no need for weightwatchers... they make money on the fact that people end up putting weight back on again...and again...with WLS that is it...NEVER AGAIN. weight watchers to me is like a patch...it works fine for awhile but WLS is more permanent... people are afraid of what they don't know...secretly they are probably REALLY jealous...You go girl!

The thing I miss about WW is the weekly meetings and accountability to someone other than myself.

Some lucky wls patients have before and/or after meetings, that would would be the ultimate.

But I miss it sometimes too.

I really SHOULD write down everything I eat, I too have a problem with the 'junk' that I keep around the house for the 'kids'.

I guess when I plateau, like now, I will just go get a top up fill.

I've been thinking about it too. Like you I did not want to diet or be obsessed with calories or grams of anything and I havent.

But realistically, there does come a point where you dont have much left to lose and your body has adjusted to your lower intake so that you just have to be more specific about energy in versus energy out.

I think WW is a very healthy and moderate way to do that.

For me though, I'm going to go on LitenEasy when we get back from a short Easter holiday - home delivered meals. It just is SO easy and works really well for me, only I've always regained of course. I'm just a really lazy calorie counter and with WW I tend to eat badly because I just count the points of naughty things and do without the good food, lol. I get a bit carried away with the supposed freedom of it, sigh.

Wow, I was thinking this same thing recently. However, I'm wondering...should we go for a lesser point range? It seems like we shouldn't be eating as much as everyone else. But I am anxious to hear how anyone does with WW and the band.

I guess the only reason I want to join is the weekly accountability and pep talk.
