Should I be disappointed?

Recommended Posts

I am one month post op today. I was 253 DOS and today I am 238. I know I should not compare, but it seems that others have had their greatest losses in their first month. I know that this is more success than I have ever had before and I am grateful for that. But I want this weight off, like yesterday. I am going to start exercising now. First, just Water aerobics, walking and light weights and then Couch 2 5K and 30day shred. What are your thoughts? Does this seem slow or am I freaking out for no reason?

You are freaking out. A 15 lb loss in a month is great! Stop comparing. Also, a good tool is to calculate what % of excess weight you have lost instead of lbs. It is much more accurate. Happy Christmas!

NMJG is absolutely correct. 15 pounds in a month is great! And I second the motion, STOP COMPARING! You will come out on the losing end of that every time.

You didn't put the weight on over night and it won't come off over night. Continue to stick with your plan and it will come off.

Congrats on your your loss so far!

Merry Christmas!

I know how you feel. I see a lot of people who lose tons in the 1st month. I am not one of those people. I was in a group on Facebook and I got so discouraged by people losing a 100 pounds in 6 months I deleted the group. I am also about a month out. I had surgery on nov 18. The day of surgery I was at 266 and a week later I lost 10 pounds then nothing after that. I was in the dreaded stall. A week after that I gained 2 pounds. I refused to weigh after that. It caused me too much anxiety. I may have lost a few pounds since then but doesn't feel like much. I'm doing everything right so I guess it will come off when it comes off. It just takes time for our bodies to adjust to everything. I also started walking this past week. It made me feel better and not so discouraged

I probably should put the scale away because I am becoming obsessed. I had my biggest loss the week after surgery too and the scale has just been inching since then. On a positive note, I measured today and I've lost lots of inches. The weirdest thing is that I lost 2 inches from my neck. What?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
